As the title.

There are several e30 owners here who think nothing of shelling thousands on their cars (id like to think that Im one of them) but there are counless people who think really good desirable parts can be had for stupidly low sums of money. Ive seen and posted countless different parts for a fixed price on different e30 and bmw forums and thers always some idiot who will say something like "you said you were after £200 for "x" part. Hows £50?" I mean, come on... do you really think anyone in their sane mind is gonna say "sure i'll take a quarter of what i want for it, i love giving bits away to tw@ts who will probably only ruin the perfectly good part as they abuse their car so much"
The responce they actually think to the question "hows £50?" is "How about you fcuk off and stop wasting my time!!!!????"

It seems its only the E30 owners that we have this problem with! E36 boys throw money at their cars. The VDub community are renowned for spending obscene amounts of cash on just about any Dub. Golf, Jetta, Camper, Polo... even the newer cars have a club following where they appriciate that money put ino the car means it will perform better.

So, why is it that so many E30 owners are simply so fcuking tight-arsed?

Answers in less than 50 words please.

Yours Cheesed-off

I spend as much as i can on my car and as much as i can afford at the time. Not heaps as im a sudent but i do my best. Would like to say im not tight arsed though. A good part is a good part. But a lot of people like to pay F*** all and get everything for it. Cant say im not a fan of bargains when one comes up though.

I agree with you Scott,

if i want something (an extra) or i need something (broken part) i will just buy it, obviously i wont pay over the odds but am happy to pay the going rate.

What most people dont think of is actually how much the parts are new from BMW! :?

i'm not tight-arsed, i am just skint

genuine parts from bmw can be cheaper than pattern parts in my experiance.. both front arb clamps and bushes for £5.80 inc vat isnt too bad for dealer parts winkeye

what made me choose an E30 over an E36 is the difference in price for parts, things for E30 are relativaly cheaper than E36 BUT that dont mean people should take the piss as you mentioned before.... way i see it, if something breaks or needs replacing id rather spend 50 quid on a new part than 70 quid on a newer model.... im not rich and dont intend on doin much to mine, as long as it runs well and i keep it in good condition that'll keep me happy! i didnt buy mine as a project or money pit, ive just gone from that, i wanna drive it for 12 months an leave everything alone unless i have to!
but ultimatly who would spend 200 quid on any part if they can get it for 50?! yes its a bit cheeky/rude an its not something id do myself but if the seller wanted quick cash or space back in his garage etc then someones got a good deal! never hurts to ask is my motto. but not everyone will ask

Im not skint, but i wont buy something for 500 if i can get one for 350 !

same as with everything else. stuff is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Got to say I see a different picture.

I find E30 owners spend huge sums of money on their E30's. I have a database of who spends what through the Zone Shop and there a large number of people who have spent in excess of £3000 in performance upgrades alone!

Maybe they just don't go round advertising it everywhere?

Attention fello 'careful' zoners, maccess are doing serious deals on P40 at the moment, buy 1 5kg can, get one free, the best bit is you can cut the can up and use it to 'reinforce' structural repairs ! :)

Scott - you would laugh at some of the offers ive had recently.... £30 for mtech 2 front bumepers - £200 for a set of mint 16" alpinas, these are the two which spring to mind first - always seem to be folks from the midlands too.... no suprise there.

Bearing this in mind - I'll give you £50 for your LSD! :D

Could you not buy maccess' own brand filler, i have found the autocare range to be very good value!

Scott, speaking for myself, if i want it i will have it. but ill make sure i pay the right price for it. Its only money and you cant take it with you.

I've spent over £7000 on my 2.7, the only original bits are bodyshell, bootlid, carpet, headlining, steering column and main wiring loom.

I've still got to sort some bodywork, fit LSD, Rondell 58 alloys and megasquirt to finish the project.

Not bad for a daily driver eh ?

Cheers,

I agree with most on this topic I will ask for a reasonable amount off postage or something similar to see what the deal is, I will however pay the asking price if I really want the part.

If you dont ask you dont get but piss take offers are a joke

i'm sure there are more people who spend their money on their E30's but not through the zone shop!

maybe it's because the cars themselves are cheap to buy so people think all the parts and running costs are cheap?

those "bargain" cars like my £300 325 are great but i have probably spent £300 replacing parts on it. Not because i'm silly but i can't put up with clonks and squeeks and if it's fitted it should work too!

Theo i'll give u £150 for the alpinas? straight up that is no messing

I voted most of us aren't.

To me, it's like the whole car thing. It's all down to what it's worth to you at the time. I am desperate for a few bits and will pay top dollar for the right parts - no questions.

I'm with Argos on this one, in the last 18 years or so of motoring i think I've only sold one car for less than i paid for it (That was a '85 323i) lost £1500 but i did own it for 5 years and added 70k miles in that time. All the other cars have been bought at 'the right time' used for x amount of time, then sold on. I usually keep my cars 4 years or so... Of course if your in need of a part / car your going to pay top dollar, but if you sit back and wait it is amazing what can be had for very little....

This is a good thread.

The amount of times iv seen requests for parts that cost like £10 brand new.

Am i tight? I dont think so, il always shop around to get the best price if i can but my car never wants for anything - ever.

-an e30 is seen as a cheeper option to the e36, and is probably the cheepest bmw in theory to run, so therefore owners may be a bit more stingey than others?

speaking from my experience with my car (only 2 months old) i have booked in a full service 2 at a bmw dealer, getting/got all known tiny probs sorted, getting a ai609 cat one alarm tomoro and plan to spend 1000s on it over the next few months!.... winkeye

parts are getting rarer now, i don't have any probs with prices, as has been mentioned before prices from bmw are stupidly expensive considering the age now of these cars.

99% of the things i see advertised on here by established zoners are sensibly priced, and i am pleased we have such a great community on here that allows us to to exchange parts and keep our e30's alive
