I've been a busy boy this weekend getting the car ready for my return trip to the nurburgring next weekend (anybody else going ?).

I fitted a bullet camera mount inside the nearside brake duct for a bit of covert filming whilst at the 'ring

Fitted a new alternator (old one wasn't charging properly).

I've fitted a full set of Koni adjustable shocks from the zone shop (thanks Sal). I had the original skinny front struts so fitted a pair of 51mm 325i struts with new wheel bearings and top mounts.

Removed the old crappy towbar and fitted a Westfalia removable tow hitch. It looks far better :D

But the biggest mod was an e36 steering rack conversion :) quite a big achievement considering I also have a 6 branch winkeye . I had to remove the subframe and alter the rack mounting points to allow me to fit the rack 10mm closer to the offside to clear the manifold. Unfortunately this means I have slightly more steering lock when turning right than turning left. I also used the e30 hydraulic pipes which needed re-bending to fit.

Been a tiring weekend but it's worth it.

Cheers,

Iain T

I went to the ring for the first time last summer and am really hooked on it, even bought a PS2 with Gran Turismo 4 to keep the circuit fresh in my head !.

Had to go back this summer before we have kids as I'll be skint when they arrive on the scene  so this'll be the last trip for a while. I wish I'd started going years ago.

Going with my dad this time, the wife got a bit bored and a bit scared last year

When the kids come along they'll be riding in the roofbox mate, i intend to keep this car until she's dead. However the wife will have other ideas so you have first refusal if it's ever for sale.

Vids a plenty buddy, the glovebox will be full of tapes and spare batteries for the camcorder winkeye
