i love the looks on their faces when their 'fast' cars getting overtaken by a 15 year old 'estate'
what sort of power do they have,im sure its about 220bhp but im not 100%.

The Octavia RS is the 1.8T lump out of the golf GTI so only 150ish stock.
beware though-fair few boys on briskoda running 1.8T 4X4 octavias with 400+bhp

its basically the same lump as the 225bhp audi TT- all you need is the bigger turbo and a helluva remap!fowler wrote:they are 150 bhp and 180 bhp depends if it was a vrs there is no way a 1.8 turbo can produce 400 bhp if it can fuck me !!! i will go get one and mod it to fuck

m sure they can be tuned to that sort of power, after all the cossie is only a 2 litre and can give400bhp relatively easily.

150hp, 180hp and 225hp.
Trust me, these are no slouches by any means, there quick, damn quick and being able to pull away from one isnt easy unless you have serious poke in your engine.

Drove a 51 plate octavia vrs the other day and was really impressed, 1 thing i don't like is that the waterpump impellers are nylon and known to fail, thats what it was in for (lovley job
) and it had only done 50k.... new 1 is brass so should last.
It was the 180 bhp version........ made my 320 feel like it had 5 reverse gears
your E30 sounds silly quick for a 15year old wagon

i have serious enough poke
id guess the one i raced might have been the 180 version as i easily left him standing.the 225 version would have been a lot closer.ive raced my mates 150 bhp golf beforeand i think he was faster than that

Thats not really surprising though is it??? - 200+bhp versus 180.......Simon wrote:I've embarrased an octavia RS in the M3, he was trying too, he gave me the thumbs up afterwards!
A bit like me saying id waste your M3 in my Mk2 Golf which has more power than your M3 - we all know that a lighter more powerful car will waste a lower powered lighter car.
Now if that VRS was remapped it would have been bye bye M3.....
Pete.

Don't really want to turn this thread into a pissing match, just thought I'd add my experience.tandino wrote:Thats not really surprising though is it??? - 200+bhp versus 180.......Simon wrote:I've embarrased an octavia RS in the M3, he was trying too, he gave me the thumbs up afterwards!

Im not trying to turn it into a pissing match.
Im also surprised your car embarassed the VRS - had the edge maybe but 20 odd brake isnt much on the road and the VRS would have better torque and aerodynamics over the M3 especially at speed.
Any difference in similarly powered cars is more likely driver skill than outright car perfomance imho........

'what ifs' dont matter ,its what happens on the day that counts ,thats the point in a road race ,you dont know what your up against power wise, you take your chance

Power figures mean nothing these days though, most modern hot hatches would show up a respected older car, such as type R's, clio sports etc.
I drive my car because it has character, pedigree, and is very respected, and this is backed up by the number of people that approach me whenever I take the car out.

And how many people back off on the road due to self preservation/Fear of killing someone/losing their licence??
You just cannot take supposed 'road races' as victory unless you know the person driving and speak to them afterwards to know they were driving at ten tenths (not that i condone this sort of behaviour)......
For example - i let people overtake me in my car - i might initially put my foot down to get them off my arse but im old enough and wise enough to remain sensible - does this mean they 'beat me'???..........

Yes but were not talking about character and pedigree here are we?Simon wrote:Power figures mean nothing these days though, most modern hot hatches would show up a respected older car, such as type R's, clio sports etc.

Were talking about your car being quicker than a VRS - which it might have been - its more powerful/lighter after all.
Embarrasingly quicker - i doubt it imho.
Dont get me wrong - id love an E30 M3 - i had its big brother until recently.........

i to am old enough and wise enough not to take stupid risks and do also let people overtake me,theres a time and a place for such behaviour.you know when your in a 'race' and 9 out of ten people acknowledge with a wave or similar gesture at the end,win or lose

So your not suprised, but now you are surprised...
I had a drag with an Octavia RS, it was on a slip road which has a very sharp bend which turns onto itself before pulling onto the motorway, I left him behind easily, once I was on the motorway I eased off (point already proven) and he then passed me (we had both slowed down by this point) and gave me the thumbs up as he passed, we were both older guys, and neither of us did anything to endanger anyone else.
I never comment on these threads, wish I hadn't bothered now.

My bro has a vrs , Fooking quick and underestimated car , 150+ speedo reading and his is 180bhp , He chases scoobies in it as well , I thought it was more powerful than that after driving it
