as title, are they worth fitting for an otherwise standard road use car?
does anyone have a pic of a 320i engine bay with one fitted?

cheers

Ah that age old question.....

well they sound good, no question, but if you want better performance the jury is out with the verdict being without a heatshield it actually can worsen performance.

This has been topic which has been discussed quite a few times.

Issues of heatsoak are going to be covered very soon by myself , Imran and Ant with scientific testing. Is a heatshield really required in an E30 engine bay - we will find out soon.

As for performance increases - this a definate yes - again we will get some real results to put up.

Just need to get hold of another 325i to do the testing on.

The general feeling of those who are using certain types of induction kits on their 325i's is that that yes they do make a +ve difference.

It has been shown again and again that on cars like the E36 M3, a GruppeM or cone filter setup has given a proven gain of upto 10bhp without any loss of torque anywhere.

The way I see it - if BMW got the airbox 100% spot on then why is it that they didn't get the manifolds to produce max power? Why is it that a BTB manifold can give some significant gains over standard?
The reason is that BMW have to take into account certain aspects like NOISE and even power delivery amongst many other factors.

The right type of open air induction system will increase performance but there will be a significant increase in induction noise which was not desirable for a mass produced car which needed to appeal to the masses.

Alot of people who bought these cars when they were new wanted them to be refined and quick - the last thing they want is an induction roar.

yep proper induction kit, with heatsheild and cold air feed will make a difference.

worth having if done properly
