So would the Z3 short shift hit the centre console?
"KOS" what set up have you actually got? Z3? 1.9 or 2.8 was it a straight swap?

Hi appletree,i have no experience with after market type levers, but i do have a 1.9 z3 lever fitted to my car and for an after market one to beat it , it would have to be very, very good! I have no probs with hitting console or anything. It was a sraight swop, all i had to mod was the selector rod to clear the prop damper-very easy.It does feel a little bit notchy when compared to standard, but ya soon get used to it and the difference is well worth it as somehow the whole car feels alive again.

I was gonna get the Z3 shifter but saw that shifter in a proper ebay auction (rather than buy it now) for 15 quid. Works a treat and had no issues with it. Neither here nor there if we are only talking about a few quid difference between that and the popular Z3 1.9 shifter.

This has been discussed till we're all blue in the face...
Z3 1.9 lever is a marked improvement on standard and feels nice and slick.
Z3 2.8 is really nice and close, though can feel a bit notchy at times... but is great when on the move.
Z4 3.0 is even closer, though not many people have tried this one. Worth getting it just to see what it's like.
I've had both the Z3 1.9 & 2.8 and they're both great. Personally I would get the 2.8 lever.

Well, I had the 1.9 on my 318iS track car and thought it was good, then I put the 2.8 lever in my Sport and always wished I had put that in the track car as it felt great! You have to get used to it, but that doesn't take long and the change is effortless. You hardly have to move the lever to change gear...
Personal choice though. Don't disregard any of them until you've tried them really. You can't say that it's too short and notchy just because someone else has said that... you must go on your own personal experience. - I suppose that goes for pretty much anything really.
But I have had both and I think they're both good. But fitting the 1.9 lever... you'll always be wondering what the 2.8 lever would be like...

On the iS I bent nothing... but on the Sport I did have to bend the selector bar slightly to stop it catching on the prop doughnut thingy. Maybe that's becasue I only used the 1.9 on the iS and the 2.8 on the Sport... maybe.

Got the Z3 2.8 on the touring and i love it, nice and tight and veery little movement to change gears, i would strongly recommend it although it haven't tried the 1.9.
Can be notchy when cold but once you are used to it it's great, makes it feel like i'm driving a bus when i get in the iS!
