Me again ...
I realise noises from this are difficult to diagnose but was wondering if you guys would recognise this one.
I have a low whining noise coming from what sounds like the rear of the car and fairly central.
It's not a fast whine ... more like a slow agonising whirr. Noticeable at speeds of around 60kmh and above and fairly constant.
It's actually been going on since I was driving uphill in the snow in the winter and got stuck. Tried to drive up the hill sideways but to no avail.
I will try to check the diff oil level first .... but any other suggestions ???
Probably driving down to Switzerland in a couple of weeks so would like to sort it out quick.

If its like a droaning noise then its Probably a bearing, from the speed you have said i would say a rear wheel bearing.
Jack up each rear wheel and spin it by hand, should be quiet and smooth. If it's rough, noisey or has any play in it then it needs the torque of the hub-nut checking and probably the bearing replaceing.
