This continues from another post! Cheers Chris for the alan key size spot on. The bumper had moved back 1 inch or so....

This is the damaged bracket - its been squashed in.
What can be done? Can it be beaten out?

This must be a common problem?

This is the good side all looks normal there - Thats coming from someone who has never removed his bumper before!!

Can't see exactly what's happened in the pic, but there's obviously some damage to the top front edge of the chassis rail. This looks trivial, so I doubt if any concertinaing of the collapsable front part of the chassis rail has taken place.
If the centre part of the bumper mount has been pushed permanently back through the outer part, then you need a new/second hand one. Just unscrew the two bolts and pull it out.
If the chassis rail has collapsed very slightly, then a washer or two between the bumper mount and it's mounting face will line things up.

If the bumpers gone back, then the front panel and wing will have as well.
It's only thin steel, and should all pull out easily enough.

Thats probably because the bonnet lip was damaged in the accident. Its turned down tighter than it should be so the angle look off! I think thats what your seeing mate... thanks for the post...

O'B'1 I had a feeling you'd strike first! Hope alls well with you! - I rolled into the back of someone who started to pull away then changed his mind! Dumb i know but sh!t happens!

The impact was taken on one side. I cant tell if the bumper mount has been pushed back. Does it go through the rubber ring at the bottom.
but there's obviously some damage to the top front edge of the chassis rail.
Yep this has started to concertina, not a great deal but i rekon at least a half inch! I think i will take off the mount any way to have a look and see what can be done.
If the chassis rail has collapsed very slightly, then a washer or two between the bumper mount and it's mounting face will line things up.
Very practical! nice idea - Thankyou -

I was thinking of sticking a screw driver in the mount and try and pull it out? doable or unrealistic?? Dont wana damage the thread in there.

True! but im trying to do as much of the car as i can these days by myself - though its a problem i enjoy the search for a solution, if you know what i mean. Plus money inst great right now so saving as much as i can is also an incentive to learn....beside i dont know enough contacts in the trade so id have to trust im not being shafted on price!!

You won't shift the mount with a screwdriver. This is one of the beefier areas of an E30.
I've had some success at pulling chassis rails out a little with a Massey Ferguson though.
You need to get the bumper nice and straight by measuring from some point further back the car (back of front doors, for instance), and then pull the wing and front panel back into place.
You'll be quite an expert at putting the bumper on and taking it off by the time you've finished!
I've done the same as you twice, moving some muppet on again, when they decided to stop again after pulling away. Got away without them claiming on me on both occasions.
First one was a local vicar, who readily admitted that it was his fault, and went on his way, and the second I suspect was uninsured, as he didn't even want my details, and was just in a hurry to get out of there!

Fair enuf! - B what is a Massey Ferguson??

I dont suppose you have a saloon knocking about that you wouldnt mind taking a measuring tape to??

It such a simple accident to happen but its such a pain - the car was just getting where i wanted it.... ah well - mine was an old dude in an older 205 the fibre glass back end went up in a white cloud!! the e30 was like a tank in comparism.
