How difficult is it to remove the sump with the lump still in the car?
after my "discussion" with a traffic island, the sump no longer holds oil..
I reckon i'll need to loosen the mounts and jack the lump up..where is the best place to jack it?
thanks

Much easier with a crane, you'll need to lift it a good 4-5 inches to get the sump past the oil pump.
I did this a few months ago when the gasket started to leak, took about 2 hours with a crane.

Ive done it before by removing the two nuts over the rubber engine mounts, removing the viscous fan then jack on the gearbox (using a piece of wood to protect the box) as close to the lump as you can.
This gives you enough room to remove the oil pump bolts and bobs your uncle etc!

We did it but had workshop ramps and airguns, dropped the front crossmember and left the engine in place, about 20 mins with two of us working on it flat out. (Was the night before Bands and we had a last minute problem with a leaking gasket). A good couple of hours on the driveway tho without proper kit I reckon. Good luck.
For sale - E30 320i racer project - sold.
I would use 1 of these if i had to do my sump gasket (again

you dont actually need to drop the sub frame. i took out the bolts on th p/s and just loosened the ones on the d/s. jacked up the engine til it touched the bulk head and out it came.
prob be a good idea to fit a sump gaurd or re inforce the sump when u is fixing it

525e sump ? if so it might just fit but is a different shape to the e30 m20 sump and you'll lose the oil level sensor if you have it.320Touring wrote:could I use the sump off of a eta lump?as I have one available? or is it a different shape?
