Bit of an odd question I know, but I've just brought a 325 Tourer with a M50 in it and the ABS light is on all the time.
How can I tell if ABS is fitted just by looking under the bonnet, got a broken back at the mo' and can't really do any crawling, esp. under cars!
I've sussed out how to fix the other wiring problems the M50 install has caused (temp gauge & OBC oil level check not working) and I'm now wondering if the ABS light always on is connected to the install?
Andy
Is ABS fitted to my 325 Tourer?

Should have added that it's a 1989 model.
Thanks

Thanks, that's the kind of tech info I understand.
So, if I do have the "big chunk of metal", I fix it with a NO.1 club hammer, right?

here ya go
thats the abs pump
click for larger pic

most abs problems stem from manky sensors on the hubs
usual a good clean of the sensors will solve the constant dash light prob

Thanks, everyone.
Last question...., can I (or the MOT tester) tell from the chassis number if ABS should be fitted? And if he can (tell) and his computer says my car should be ABS free, will he ignore the ABS light being on?
Sorry, that's 2 questions!

dnt think the mot guy could
but if you contact nearest bmw dealer with ur vin no they can tell you how the car left the factory
if theres no abs system fitted then just tell him the light is on but car no longer has abs and it shouldnt be a problem mate

Thanks, I can't wait to start driving again and I'm trying to get all these little problems sorted, ready for the day I can bend over enough to get into a car!

If it hasn't got ABS, pull the bulb from the back of the instrument cluster.

Yeah, I think I will, MOT testers don't always know all the rules and the light'll start bugging the G/F and I'll get stupid questions!

The fact it's a 325i touring will tell you it has ABS, as all 325i tourings have ABS as standard.
