Sounds like a daft question and it might have been put in the wrong place,

but how do gearknobs attach in E30's?

because a friend has offered to make me one, but needs to know how they thread on and what width etc..

and i cant go look in mine because its currently serving time at a garage for crimes of rust.

so if anyone could tell me that would be a great help.

also one last thing is the gearstick like the same fitment in the z3 short shift conversion? because im lookin to convert mine to short shift soon and will want to use the gearknob on that aswell.

sorry for the rather odd question

cheers guys 8)

It's a push fit. Aftermarket ones do not fit like this.

Two ways you can attach an 'aftermarket' knob...

1) Attach it by screwing an allen bolt(s) into the side of the lever.

2) Thread the existing gear lever to accept a custom gearknob.

I'd just keep the existing one. That way it ain't gonna come off in your hand while going round, say, a fast corner for example...
