Right gents, i seem to have a slight oil leak, which up unitll now has been so small it was undetectable, however the powersteering fluid has also started to drip so trying to find out which one is coming from where is a bitch

so firstly, is no 7 on this diagram liable to leakage and worth replacing? if so, is it a screw thread or a tight push fit?

secondly, which pipes are most likely to be causing the leak on the power steering, or where are the typical places to look as at the moment everywhere has a nice fien haze of rustproofing (oil) that's preventing me from seeing where the origin is

cheers boys and girls

regards.....oily bastard

Hi Chris, firstly no 7 is a common leak problem and has a modified part to cure it.

It's held on with a circlip, however the original type is a total twat to remove (it's a piece of round spring steel wire with no way to grip it). A small screwdriver and a pair of pliers work best.

The new part has a different clip so is easier to refit.

I've found the steering usually leaks from one of the banjo unions on the side of the input shaft, the sealing rings corrode away. However, my rack is leaking from the oil seal on the input shaft and is going to the scrap metal man as soon as I get a replacement rack.

Cheers,
