I've got 2 areas, 1 on each rear wing, where the laquer seems to be flaking off. Its slowly getting worse and I really need to sort it out. Has anybody else encountered this? My car is the metalic laggon green colour which, I would imagine, will be a pain in the arse to try to anything with myself.

Had a few random areas on my Diamond Black paintwork. Was told by my bodyshop that it was probably from a previous accident repair/respray where the areas weren't cleaned properly before spraying. Ended up getting the affected areas resprayed professionally. Most bodyshops will do patch-up work like this and don't charge the earth. Whilst they've got the paint in the gun, they may touch up any other areas you've got by agreement. Most secondhand cars you see on a forecourt have had this sort of cosmetic tidy up done to them. As you say, working with and trying to match metallics is a nightmare unless you know what your doing.

I thought all BM paintwork had a lacquer top coat but there again I've only ever had metallics. I think all the dealer spray touch up paints come as a twin pack. Somebody else will need to come in with the for sure answer.

Solid colours aren't lacquered so thats solid black, white red and the solid blue and maybe a few more I've missed off.
Touch up kits for metallics will have base colour then lacquer but for a solid colour it's just the paint.

My 318 is laquered, or was I should say. I actually managed to blast most of it off with a powerwasher. I think the laquer just dies after a while tbh..
It was a metallic green paint.
