I have an E30 323i that is fitted with Mintex disc brakes and pads, and tbh they suck.

The car doesn't have ABS as its a quite old E30, from 1984. Would it be possible to upgrade this now, if so how much roughly?

i was just reading on e30tech about a e28 brake upgrade with vw rotors not sure of the acual performace gain but it might be worth a look seemslike a fairly stright forward swap that would be cheap. other upgrades can be had on the aftermarkt but in my opinion they are way to much as i find the oem parts to work great

If you're worried about parts availability, it's all the same as a 325i, so you can go back to normal discs & pads or any of the umpteen upgrades out there.

Hmm...I have just fitted a set of Mintex 1144 pads onto bog standard disks and im quite pleased with them so far, only 300 miles on them also but they are biting nicely.

How long have they been on the car? Did you bed them in properly? Also are you sure it's the discs/pads that are at fault and not your brake fluid? If you've been out of a session and cooked the brake fluid then your gonna have a soft pedal until you change the fluid regardless of what discs/pads you put on.

The pads are very important, the discs themselves far less so. The best pad I have found so far for road use is Ferodo DS2500's. They cost £100 a set but are the dogs danglies :)

Zimmerman drilled and grooved with DS2500's on mine

good upgrade, I removed the backplates, I can stand the car on its nose @ 100+ without fade.

keep thinking I must go bigger, but cant justify the cost yet......
