Not that I use them much, but my front left fog stopped working. At the same time, the bulb on the dash stopped coming on when you put the front fogs on. Is this coincidence, or does it do this to let you know you have a fog light out!?
Anyway, I bought a new fog light bulb, and fitted it this evening, it still doesn't work? Duff bulb? Or something more dodgy (wiring)? Is the fact that the Dash light stopped working aswell significant?
Thanks for any help!

Dave,
It may just be dirty contacts in the fog light switch. Mine did something similar a while back.
I'll take a look on Tuesday
Ian.

Hi. I had the same problem. Definetley the contacts at the foglight. I can't believe that such a well engineered and put together car suffers from so much corrosion at switch points. I'm slowly going through every contact point and sanding/cleaning!

I think they're H7's?
Although they are the small bulbs with the piece of wire attached which has the connector on the end.

I have the same problem on my other Touring - left side works fine, but right side doesn't. I've checked the voltage on the connector at the back of the lamp unit and it's dead - nothing there.
If people are suggesting the fog light switch, by which i assume you mean the dash-board switch, how would corrosion on the contacts result in one side working and the other not? Is the switch really a double-pole, with one pole for each side of the car?

It's also odd that my dashboard light stopped working at the same time. I've just swapped over the dashboard which had a working fog light bulb, and it doesn't work on this on either.

The E30 foglights suffer badly from corrosion around the connectors being exposed where theyre located.
BTW the bulbs are H3's. H7's have the big plastic connectors attatched.

That's the one. H3. My dad's old 306 was H7's.
Apologies.
The connectors at the foglight don't look corroded?

I'm assuming you haven't checked the switch yet? Or you have and are still having problems?davetouring wrote:

I took the switch out of the dash, which also 'looks' ok, but I wouldn't know for sure.
I'm popping over to Ian332isport's tomorrow to get an illuminated hrw switch sorted, he said he'd take a look. Very kind!
I'll let you know the cause.

I popped over to Ian332isports today (thanks again!) who had a look at a couple of problems on my car. The fog one was the most easily solved.
There is a separate fuse for left hand side and right hand side, the passenger side fuse was blown.
For me not checking.
So it is now solved after replacing the rear bulb, which was also gone. (and fuse)
Worth checking incase you didn't know that.
