I think it's a bit of a marmite thing with scorpion, some say theyre too loud, others love them, I would definitley make the effort of finding someone who could take you for a spin in one with a scorpion, it's a lot of money to spend if you don't like it!
Also I think the scorpion is from the end of the manifold, and doesn't actually include the manifold.
I've got a sebring on my touring, was on the sport originally, lovely sound, not loud, but does amplify the straight six noise, expensive though!
Personally I'd go for the standard Boysen one that's available from Euro Car Parts, same as the dealer supplied systems, well built, and sound nice, not stainless though.

this is copied and pasted from another thread on here. It realtes to a company called Larini who make exhausts......
i went for their "standard" system. This is a copy of BMWs original design, but made in stainless steel. The internals are top quality and the whole system weighs a fcuking ton!!! The thickness of the material is incredible! The quality of the workmanship equally impressive!
The "standard" system includes back box, centre box and downpipes. That was £360+vat and postage.
Total including vat and postage was £481 Thats not cheap I admit, but for the quality you get i wouldnt even think twice about getting a new one! id just order the fcuker! Im THAT impressed!
I would honestly reccommend Larini to ANYONE with an e30 that wanted their stainless zorst to be quieter.
No association yada yada yada!
They also make a "sports" system that has larger tail pipes that allows 9-15bhp extra when coupled with their 6branch manifold. The sports system is the same price and the 6brancher is also pretty reasonable price wise.
Every exhaust design they make is tested on a car before they say "yes, we make them" Thats why you wont find a larini for an aston db9 - coz no1 has given them a DB9 that needs a new zorst yet! Their zorsts dont ressonate at cruising speeds! They specifically test for this.
This was the factor that "SOLD" me on Larini.

I wanted the sport to be as original as possible, and those 3 and a half inch stainless steel tailpipes just didn't look right!billgatese30 wrote:i wish you had left that sebring one on the sport.

looked up that site on larini, looks quality, the standard system would be a ideal(for me anyway)combination of a standard spec exaust built in stainless,i may actually go for one of these, does anyone here have one of these larini systems fitted?

they sell a complete stainless system for the e30. they are actually made by phoenix performance exhausts in cullompton. they usually only make racing systems for porsches but started making e30 systems shortly after i started working there.(funny that). the build quality is spot on and they even sound nice. not sure on prices but worth a try

i used to work there. not any more. i got bored of welding bits of pipe together. i also offended them by not putting one of their systems on my car. i love my hartge system too much. plus they used to enjoy taking the pi$$ out of my tailpipe. i work as a 24hr roadside mechanic for lamb hill now, loads more fun. phoenix do make top notch exhausts tho. SS exhausts are just over the road and are not that great imho.

quicksilver alpina replica C2 2.7 system. It's nice and bassy up 2 about 3k and you can't hear it on the motorway. So sounds the titties cruising around! looks standard from the tail pipes
Yup, that was me, not exactly taunton, but close enough.reardiffraver wrote:james. are you from taunton? did you come up to rockingham with us? or was that someone else?
Do phoenix make mild steel systems and one off exhaust/manifolds?

no way me and tim were only talking about you the other day.Yup, that was me, not exactly taunton, but close enough.

m5 j25 instant flatout rip to determine which order we went in (shortly before my head cracked).
yours is looking sweet now. no more driving over kerbs at the services now then
phoenix don't touch mild steel. it comtaminates the tooling and impregnates the stainless with rust (so it looks like a powerflow). they will do one off systems but their 325 system is spot on. be a good place to go to have a manifold made for you're 330 conversion. they are gonna make the front half of my m50 exhaust system.
i wanna keep the hartge backbox so it looks the same.
you want to go and check out fritz bitz in wellington if you haven't already. it's a hell of a place if you are into bm's and it's only down the road. i always end up staying there for hours

I remember thatreardiffraver wrote: m5 j25 instant flatout rip to determine which order we went in (shortly before my head cracked).
It was a low kerb and it seemed a more direct route out.reardiffraver wrote:yours is looking sweet now. no more driving over kerbs at the services now then![]()
My sig pic has been edited a little, its still on 15" BBS.
I dont really want a stainless system for mine. It will be a little low when its finished so Im only going to hit it. Im just trying to find someone to modify my S50 manifolds or make me a one off.

i found using vauxhall rear bumpstops cured that on mine. we know what the lanes round here are like on the noise init.I dont really want a stainless system for mine. It will be a little low when its finished so Im only going to hit it.
yes you do want a stainless exhaust really. u know u do. if you only want a mild steel one making try powerflow on marshbarton exeter. build quality is not amazing but you'll get want you want for not too much money and they will tackle anything. s50 though a nice system is the way to go tho. but if you want to save money it will still sound angry through anything

Its more the manifolds that I need sorting. As long as they are done well I would be happy with two scaffold pipes pointing out back
My brother and me can make a system for it, it only needs to get the car road legal again. We could probably do a fair job on the manifold, but it would take a while. Ive been trying find someone local who can do it properly, but no seems willing to try.

hilltop services on the chard road just off the A303 are pretty handy with a welder. they made some straight through backboxs for my m8's 840. it burbles like a tvr now. they're pretty local. give them a bell or drive up and see them. they are well into modificating. i've got to go i've just got a job! no rest for the wicked init.

Yes, ME! Its not currently fitted, but i tested it when i removed the exhaust on my SE. Its meant to be for my sport, but i couldnt resist bolting it together and having a listen!technoviolet wrote:looked up that site on larini, looks quality, the standard system would be a ideal(for me anyway)combination of a standard spec exaust built in stainless,i may actually go for one of these, does anyone here have one of these larini systems fitted?

Or you could have a quicksilver zorst, which is an exact replica of the 3 piece alpina c2 2.7 system i have on mine. One of 2 currently you can get one for £450. Now this system actually sounds like the standard job except it's much more bassy low down. I can't notice any torque loss at all and it's a bit more responsive at the top of the rev range. You can't really hear it at motorway speeds unless you plant your foot. Looks nice and subtle too

Larini quality is ace mate! Materials are thick as fook! i really cant see me needing to do anything other than replace the exhaust rubbers every few years mate!!!technoviolet wrote:fair play to you scott for all the work you're lavishing on your sport, what's the quality/sound of the larini system like?did you go for a full system with manifold, what's their service like?do they stock the systems for the sport or are they made to order and if so what is the expected waiting time?sorry for all the questions but im really interested in one of these systems.
I went for full "standard" system WITHOUT the manifold (i didnt have the money for both)
Their service is excellent! The guys on the phone talked me thru the making processes and what they did and how the system sounded. As soon as the guys had finished telling me that it would be a replica of the original system in stainless, i was half sold. as soon as they told me it wouldnt be boomy like the scorpions, i was 15/16ths sold. when they said its made to order and that its 28days MAXIMUM i was done. True to their word, mine came in after 25days. Well worth the wait IMHO!
Simon, nice tail pipes! Material looks about half the thickness of my Larini Zorst tho.

Worth checking out Milltek
http://www.millteksport.com
They designed a stainless exhaust for the 318's and 320's in the SELOC BMW Challenge for this year, I've only done a couple of days in mine but it feels nice and sounds lovely. Not sure if they have a 325 version yet though but worth a quick look.
