LSD FROM GERMANY, OK on my car? & doors shut=no elec win

UPDATE: ACTUALLY URL FOR THE ITEM (#8068208819 if you want to search it) I THINK SEEMS TO BE THIS OTHERWISE YOU NEED TO SIGN IN: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %26fvi%3D1
I've been offerred this "off eBay"; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1
I'm desperate for it, as at 80 mph I'm currently doing about 4000 RPM, and so long trips are a high revving nightmare, but my car used to be a 320 (now has 325 in) and hence has a small case diff.
I'm really struggling to get one in Spain.
Will this large case go straight on mine?
Also how difficult is the swap likely to be changing it in a dark residential Garage, in Spain with limited tools?
Does anyone know what tools will I need and are any bolts likely to be siezed -near impossible to get off etc, and/or what is the best way to tackle the job?
Any tips/advice will be really appreciated!
Cheers
Ed
PS: My windows don't work with the doors shut. At the same time as this problem the heated seats, and heaters stopped working! Windows (but not heaters or heated seats) work fine with them open, but just not when shut! Anyone got any ideas?

The windows r cause a fuse has blown... when the doors r open it runs on a diffrernt circuit 2 when closed.
I had the same problem... I can't remember which fuse it is though... was a long time ago.
But I changedthe fuse and it worked one time.

Windows are fuse 17, but I don't think this is your problem. Also I think you'll find your mirrors aren't working either.
As a check, pull out relay K5, and link together pins 30 and 87 of it's socket with a piece of wire. This should make the windows and seat heaters work.
The problem is with a black/green wire that is the smallest wire connected to the starter motor.
My German's not that hot (in spite of having some German close relatives), But a medium case E30 diff is directly interchangeable with a medium case one.
You should find any seized bolts, but the ones on top of the diff are tight and can only be undone with a 19mm spanner.
Prop nuts are also very tight, and the diff is very heavy. All do able, but requires a bit of muscle.

I do believe you are corect about the mirrors -I'd forgotten about them! I'll have a look at both the fuses and the relays, and see which or both it is!
Thanks lads.
My Dad should be happy if I can sort this, he is getting really pissed off as currently when he wants to have a smoke and he has to open the door whilst we are high revving our way to golf, and it annoys me when my bird is in the car because I'm the one who has to do the door opening! Anyway summer is here now so it's hood off and windows down from now on!
Worringly, I emailed back the guy who offerred me the diff, but now he's gone all quiet on me -typical, there was me struggling to cough up the cash and umming and aahing and sleepless night about it, finally made my decision which is financially a large one, and now he's ignoring me -great, bet he's sold it to a local guy or something!
But if I do get it or another 3.64 from somewhere that is not going to bancrupt me, am I correct in thinking I need a 19mm spanner, and (from looking at other posts) a ratchet with a connector that I can stick an 8mm Allen Key in - & lots of oil, WD40, and effort?
Thanks
Ed

NONE OF THEM. More likely the starter motor or the wire connected to it.edf wrote:I do believe you are corect about the mirrors -I'd forgotten about them! I'll have a look at both the fuses and the relays, and see which or both it is!

Yeah sorry about that, I mis-wrote what I meant! I will be looking at the cable coming from the starter motor.
What exactly should I be doing once I have located it? I will obviously make sure it is attached etc.
I remember that I got a much larger started motor than was originally on my car (which was probably a 320 one) from a 323 in a scrappers, (which was a total bastard to get out and in), but the windows worked after that, so maybe it has come lose?
Cheers

Turn the ignition on and short the black/green wire on the smalllest starter terminal to earth. You should hear two relays click in the fusebox and all the failed stuff should work.
Don't operate the starter in this condition, or there will be big sparks and much smoke!

Thanks for the help on this everyone.
I joined pins 30 and 87 from relay K5, and sure enough, the windows worked again! So then I replaced K5 but the windows/heaters/mirrors still don't work. Did I misunderstand something, or haved I done something wrong?
Thanks

Neither. You've just performed step one of a diagnostic process.edf wrote: Did I misunderstand something, or haved I done something wrong?

Now go check out the black/green wire on the starter motor.
Thanks, but there is no black/green wire as my brother and I put a new engine in, and so the wire/s is/are a different colour!
There are two thinish wires of the same colour, but what should I do with them to make the windows mirrors etc work?
I'm going to France in the afternoon (hence suddenly trying to get the windows etc to work so my bird doesn't keep giving me shit about her hair being blown everywhere), so if I don't reply for a week or two I'm not being rude!
Thanks again for the help

What engine? Sha'nt answer for a week either, cos I'm off for a week in the morning as well!
325, was originally a 320, from Germany, I bought it from France off a guy who bought it from the German. It's an LHD cabrio (as I now live in Spain) if that makes any difference.
The windows didn't work at the beginning straight after the engine was fitted, and after my brother fitted the toad alarm and immobiliser, but then he pissed about with something and they worked (He can't remember what).
Then a ball and socket joint from my wipers wore out and so I had to replace it, and I took the entire wiper motor and assembly out as the other end was rock solid and I didn't want to bend it, but when I put it back in, (I might have not put the heater stuff back together agian properly, or maybe I did, but nevertheles), after a few days, the heaters, windows etc stopped working again!
It's really bloody annoying!!
Cheers

From what little i know, get the two thin wires from the starter. Then indevidually try shorting each one to a good earth.
When one of them is shorted it should allow the windows etc to operate.
Find where that wire goes to (relay) and then (possibly. Correct me if i'm wrong) replace it.
just like that

If it was a BMW M20B25 engine that went in, it should have the same black/green wire.
Check the reistance of the socket of pin 85 of relays K5 and/or K7 to earth. Should be very low, but not quite zero.
