can a faulty CPS cause no spark?

as in title really. can a failing CrankPositionSEnsor cause an intermittant no spark problem??

yes it can.
No Posistion/rpm signal, no sparky, no fuel
its commonplace for the wiring to rub through behind the waterpump pulley dude, worth a poke with a torch
to test the sensor, there should be 550 ohms between the middle and one outer pin iirc.
