i put the car in yesterday to have my brand spanking new t34 turbo fitted and set up and expect it back at sometime today
im going to keep the old one to fiddle with and try to rebuild as a spare.this t34 can run up to 28psi and is good for around 380 bhp but ill still only be running it at 17psi for the moment.the downside is that im now over a thousand quid poorer

got it back last night about 6 and was told i didnt need to run it in
its quicker of the mark as the boost comes in at 1400rpm but he thinks i have fueling issues ,once you reach 3rd or 4th with the foot down it seems to be holding back a bit,so im off for a rolling road tune up
but no puffs of smoke at all now!

Thats crazy low, even my T3 wouldn't boost till 1900, now I'm lucky to get boost @ 3000 and have to wait till 4000 for the rest of it!!fuzzy wrote:boost comes in at 1400rpm
Sounds about right, mine wouldn't hold full boost at anything richer than 12.5-1 afr.fuzzy wrote: but he thinks i have fueling issues ,once you reach 3rd or 4th with the foot down it seems to be holding back a bit

the turbo supppliers recommended a .63 inlet and a .48 exhaust housing for my set up so the boost comes in low down as my previous set up meant i got a big kick up the arse as the boost came in about 3000rpm but was more geared up for a higher stage of tuning than what i actually have.its still good for 28psi and 380bhp though
fortunately i have a brand new fuel tank i bought but never got around to fitting so when my walbro 255 cosworth fuel pump comes tomorrow i can do the whole lot at once

The only issue with smaller exhuast housing is the restrictions they cause at high revs and pressure, like you say good bottom/mid range but limited to what max power it can deliver. I'm sure if you feel the need for more top end you could switch in a bigger housing but I'm no cossie expert so I'll leave the tech advice to your supplier.fuzzy wrote:the turbo supppliers recommended a .63 inlet and a .48 exhaust housing for my set up so the boost comes in low down as my previous set up meant i got a big kick up the arse as the boost came in about 3000rpm but was more geared up for a higher stage of tuning than what i actually have.its still good for 28psi and 380bhp thoughfortunately i have a brand new fuel tank i bought but never got around to fitting so when my walbro 255 cosworth fuel pump comes tomorrow i can do the whole lot at once
I've no actual idea what my A/R's are but a guy in Sweden said he'd guess mine was about 1.0 exhaust and .8/.9 on the inlet side, even he said it was a huge turbo and capable of flowing more than 600/700bhp when used at 2 - 2.5bar
I'm just waiting too see how a 3 inch straight through exhaust helps this beast breath, hopefully more power at less boost but I'll have to wait and see
Walboro is a good idea too, something I'll do when I've maxxed out the current setup.
any chance of a vid now then?
Mark.

ill see what i can do about a vid. im not aiming for big power the 380bhp limit of this turbo will be as far as im going.the smaller housing was to make it a more usable unit delivering power low down making it better at the traffic light grand prix

no boost in first? mine has been built for acceleration rather than top end and maxes out at about 130mph.what are you aiming for with your build?

My last setup was for 'getaway' driving, quick spool and loadsa mid range grunt, infact I kept up with a RS6 till a 100 but that's when I lost and lost bad, so this time it's built up for the 50-150mph sprintfuzzy wrote:no boost in first? mine has been built for acceleration rather than top end and maxes out at about 130mph.what are you aiming for with your build?
I can't get enough load on the engine in 1st to spool it up, it blips to 1 psi or so then really gets going in 2nd, tbh I wasn't that sure my engine would even spool the turbo but it works and works well.
Ultimate aim is too have a solid 400rwhp for everyday and a high boost setting which will be within a nats bollock of max for the injectors, something about 500rwhp.
I started with the same aim as you but I just couldn't resist the urge for more POWER!
Just gotta hope the old block and head stay together as it's now bolted down so well if it does go it will go big stylee

fozzy...i have been pondering this for some time
what fluid do you put in the jar to preserve your brain when you take it out to think that 400 wrhp isn't enough
thanks for your time

I will, I keep finding small problems that you can never plan for and they all take a little time to sort out, like the clamps and the Wb, clamps need to be 3 1/8 inch and the local supplier is out, so now going to use 3 1/4 inch, two days gone there, also the WB is jammed in the boss, so that's gotta be heated out, something I need a local engineering company with a big vice to help me with.billgatese30 wrote:fair enough

The paint and wrap is in the post tonight so I'm thinking by Sat day I should be ready to book in for a MOT! ( fingers crossed )
