I was wondering what experiences people have had using the built-in immobiliser on the OBC. On my car ('88 325iSE), it only retains the code for a single use, i.e. each time you stop the car you have to re-enter a code for the immobiliser to function (which is somewhat annoying!) Is this a normal feature - or can it be configured to retain a code indefinitely?
Cheers!

Does anyone use their OBC immobiliser?

No, that's how it works. It's laughably easy to bypass anyway.

easy to bypass? I was actually thinking of trying this feature out on one of my cabrio's. It is missing the rear window curently, and all I can think about is osmeone climbing in and taking off.
I was scared, though...... I didn't want to try this feature, and for osme reason not be able to deactivate. after all, we are daling with a 16 year old computer....lol
How do I activate this feature and deactivate? I don't really need to know how to bypass..... just looking for operating instructions..... thanks.....

Dead easy to operate; you put the ignition switch in it's first on position, press CODE and enter in the number you want using the 1000,100,10 and 1 keys - anything from '0000' to '9999'. Switch the ignition off to store the code, or to position 2 to erase it. If you stored a code, the car will only start once you've entered the code at the first ignition position (ie, before you churn the starter). It gives you three attempts to enter the correct code; if you don't manage it, an alarm sounds for 30 seconds, and of course the car won't start.
It is understandably worrying to use at first but I now use the feature on both my '87 320iSE and '88 325iSE with no problems so far. Quite a useful joyrider deterrent if nothing else.

Unfortunately, as far as security is concerned, it resets itself if you disconnect the battery for a few seconds.
