right the problem with you system ali is the pipe diamiter on the back box is to free flowing thats why you get the loud burblewhat you want is stadard exhaust to the back box just to make it a bit quiter give me a call later and i will have a look as my mate works at powerflow, or have the guys at longlife havea look as a geeza down there hasa 318is and it sounds the tits bit like E46 M3.

i agree with you Si, i've got a standard system on mine, an it is fairly raspy, esp at high revs! but i'd like it if i could go one step further and have it sound like a bag of nails inthe exhaust like the E46 M3!!Simon13 wrote:but she was still sporting the factory exhaust system right through and it sounded well raspy especially at high rpm. Back then i always thought there was something wrong with it! but thats how they sound!

You might be interested in this article, goes into detail on the E46 M3 exhaust and its design issues (and naturally how much better the Dinan one is! ): http://www.dinancars.com/whitepapersFile.asp?ID=3stuartgallafant wrote:indeed...dark_sounds wrote:sets of occasional alarm![]()
ali, i did have an E46 M3 back box sitting by my toolbox at work, which i was gonna cut open to see how they acheive the sound, but some f*ck*r took it! bloody cleaners!!
i assuming, that the bafflers inside the box wobbly, or rattle, kind of like the bit of plastic inside a kazoo (the toys that kids have that sounds like a constipated duck when you blow into it!!) but im not sure!
i'd be interested to know though. we were talking about this a while ago wernt we?!
I found it quite interesting as I've been looking at exhaust design recently.

it says apparently because of the way the gases have to make a U-turn in the back box it gives it a note that most M3 owners dont like.... bah fools! what do they know!
but this also means that im guessing in order to get a similar sound,, there needs to be a rear box that does similar ie,, makes the gasses jiggle,,, also in this case it means that its on a twin (or quad) system,, so in our case,, fort a sinple one side back box,,, the gases need to make a 360 turn inside the rear box, and achieving this is going to be impossible with powerflow/longlife because they only design and make "free flow" systems,, whcih essentially the dinan one is,, and also performs better... so is it worth it??
personally i dont relly mind aboiut performance, i just want the damn sound!
