Hi Guys and Gals,
Got a 1986 320i Baur convertible, very nice to drive except when trying to park! Anyone know how easy/difficult (or if it's even possible) to retrofit power steering?

Thanks!

nuts and bolts dude.

best way is source the complete kit, rack pump, hoses from a complete car in a breakers yard and bolt her up.

rack is easy enough to swop, the pump and its bracket will bolt up to the block as intended, add the missing belt , fill with some ATF and enjoy.

I've simplified but if you look at the setup on a PAS car and compare to yours it should all become obvious.

let us know how you get on
Product Development and Endurance for Delphi.

Original performance chips, original works not unlicensed copies :D Email FTW

you have to support the engine and remove the subframe due to the sump pan being in the way. Thats if your engine has the mounting holes for the pump and the slot for the oil holder in the top of the suspension turret i assume the engine is an m20?

Hi,

You may have fitted your PAS by now but anyway - my 320i Baur came with retro-fitted PAS. The old lady who had the car from new got to the point where she couldn;t haul the wheel round any more, so she paid BMW Ԛ£1500 to fit PAS. Then she drove the car another 5,000 miles in 4 years and sold it to me. Steering is very good - probably more positive than in my Audi (work car).
