hi
yes you will go up through the gears quicker with the sport box as the ratio is closer to give you better acceleration.

If you just change a sport 'box into a standard 325i, you'll probably end up with slower acceleration as the first 3 ratios are longer in the sport box.
This is what I've got and although it does mean I can do over 60 in 2nd, it also reduces the punch of 3rd gear, despite the turbos!
I believe that sports had a shorter diff ratio which made up for the acceleration deficiency, but gave less relaxed cruising.
Personally, I like longer low gears as it means (to me anyway) you can use more of the available ratios, 2nd gear with a non-sport box is all but useless once you're moving quickly IMO.

i personally love the 3.64 25% lsd from a early mtech 1 325i sport
or you could be greedy and have a nice hartge 40% 2.97 LSD now thats a nice diff...
ive got 1 lol[/list]

Isn't there a big difference between a 2.97 and a 3.64 diff? That's a huge leap in ratios.
I was thinking that a 3.25 would be optimal - a good all-around ratio. What d'you think?

Yeah, it's big jump in ratio's but my guess Ian's using a dog leg box with diferant ratios with the 2.97 in his Hartge H35 and a normal box(differant car ?) with the 3.64 ?LowLevel wrote:Isn't there a big difference between a 2.97 and a 3.64 diff? That's a huge leap in ratios.
You want a dif between 3.64 and 3.91 for a 325, a 3.25 is way to tallI was thinking that a 3.25 would be optimal - a good all-around ratio. What d'you think?

The Sport 'box I'm getting is coming from a 1990 325i Sport.
The part number I've been given is --- 260.0.1346.91
I'm assuming this is a non-dogleg 'box?

if your getting a 1990 sports box u probably will want a 3.91 lsd that will mate nicely to it same car that would be from then if you get meLowLevel wrote:The Sport 'box I'm getting is coming from a 1990 325i Sport.

for my hartge h35 it uses a m3 e30 dogleg box with uprated layshaft bearings seals etc, with the 2.97 40% LSD hartge.
my 325i sport mtech 1 uses a 3.64 lsd 25% lock and is mated to the sports gearbox from the same car.
hope that may help a bit but personally out of the 25% lsds i prefer the 3.64 but thats just me however if u were running big power etc id be wanting a diff built upto a 40% ratio if u ever need any help with diffs and gearboxes i know a very very good guy for this up in northampton.
just my 2p thanks ian.

turbo brown, in a sport u cannot do 60 in 2nd because they have 3.91 diffs
they only made the sport box to lose the powerband hole u were dropped in with a normal box. from 2nd to 3rd
the best combo imo is sport box and a 3.73
but i expect your turbo is a 3.64? which gives nice long legs, compared to a sport setup!
