Hi I bought a remote central locking kit hoping that I could plug in and play but it was not to be.I found all the bits in the A pillar I plugged it in hoping that it would be that simple. Is there a simple way of connecting the remote control box to the existing control box as I don't see me stripping it all out to install the remote system.Failing that I am off to the alarm fitting centre and EBay for the kit.

Most of the wires you need are behind the glovebox but it will depend on what kind of system you try to fit. (number of wires, colours, voltages, polarity.......)

Everything in box.I swapped over remote box with bmw control box and got some clicking but nothing else so I put it all back together and put the kit in the shed then I thought of all you clever people in the zone and tried a thread.Martinaston wrote:Most of the wires you need are behind the glovebox but it will depend on what kind of system you try to fit. To lock an E30 youneed to momentarily earth the yellow/blue wire that goes to the passenger door pillar socket, and to unlock it you need to do the same with the green/blue wire.
Without knowing nore about your unit, I can't help any further.
idn't it come with instructions?

Hi remote system came with everything needed to install remote locking
I was hoping that there would be away to connect the control box without riping old system out and putting new system in.

There probably is, but I can't tell you without a lot more info about the unit you have.

Brown and white appear to be the lock and unlock request wires.
Blue and green work the motors.
When the doors lock, either the blue or the green are connected to earth and the other connected to 12V+. To unlock, the blue and green are reversed.
Try connecting the green and blue to the E30 lock/unlock request wires, each through a diode, like a 1N4007, with the cathode (band on the diode) ends to the blue and green.
If this doesn't work, you'll have to use a couple of small relays as well.

Can anyone recommend any particular makes (other then the standard BMW one!) for retrofitting remote central locking - in particular for a 1988 325iSE - and is it fitted only to the passenger side A-pillar wiring loom or are there alternative possibilites?
Thanks,
Maurice, E. Kent

Most aftermarket alarms with remote control incorporate remote locking.
Doesn't have to be connected in the glove box area, but all the wires you need are there.
