Last night i went out to my 325iSport after it hadnt moved for 3days, started fine as usuall, drove down the road 3miles and the temperature gauge was in the red!!!
this has never happened b4, There was no steam from the bonnet or anythin. i opened the coolant lid and it all come spewin out the top. The heaters were still hot so i dont thik its a cylinder head gasket,or is it? Blockage in the coolant system mayb?

Could also be a blocked radiator...

Don't think its the fan, as it wouldn't have happened so quickly.
First port of call is to change the thermostate, don't bother testing it as they only cost at the most £10.
Also worth giving the whole system a good clean out with some rad flush and ideally a hose (back wash up all the holes)
Bleed properly (there are loads of threads on how to do this)take you time and don't get annoyed!
See if its any better.
If still no better then:
Radiator
Water pump is it noisy?
Gasket
cyclinder head
Bottom end
Big bills!

The system is pressurised on E30's (or at least on M20's) so it'll always spew out the top when hot - whether it's overheating or not!MadE30mike wrote: i opened the coolant lid and it all come spewin out the top.
I had something similar happen and it was the thermostat; took it out and cleaned it (covered in yeuch!), then flushed the radiator* and re-filled with decent coolant (actually coolant & water), then everything worked fine again - and has been working fine for ~a year since.
*use good rad flush, and leave it in there for long enough to actually do it's job not "10mins" as they say on the bottle, that's not long enough to do it right, preferably get her out on the road and use the engine properly get 10-20 miles on her before getting the hose out!
Fingers crossed for you mate, that it's nowt BIG.
If it's anything like mine so much cr*p will come out when you flush her you'll wonder how she was running at all...!!!
