ive been seeing these on ebay alot recently and just asking if anyone thinks there worth it or just cheap and nasty

its an alloy back box (no rust apparently)with choice of 3", 4" or 5" exit , slanted or cut straight and says it is full flow for better gas evacuation etc.

comes with or without baffles in it as well

i just thought the actual box looks a little small and whether that would make much differance?

is it worth me getting one?

form over function

1) it might well fail your MOT

2) it might well REDUCE the power your engine can produce (due to back-pressure being wrong after you fit it)

BMW made excellent exhausts as standard; apart from Alpina/Hartge I don't think anyone else has made one that INCREASES power output.... many others have made exhausts that increase noise output, and DECREASE power.

new-ish exhaust made by who?

The only exhaust to fit is standard O/E Boysen IMHO, unless you WANT less power and more noise..... (ducks down behind parapet)

i think it is just a standard exhaust

i got it with the car because he knew it was gonna go soon so gave me that one off a donar car and so ive gotten as far as fitting in the back half of it but there seems to be a lack of power

sounds and feels tighter...more responsive and quiter but the power seems to have gone a bit

could i have obstructed the exhaust flow or is it not on right or what?

any ideas people would be much appreciated

it was

i put the back part on and it still sounded like it was blowing so i went under there and found the front box was letting out a bit of air on the weld

i sealed it up using some random pipe sealant me dad had and since then its sounded better but not much pull than before

is it because more exhaust was escaping when it was blowing so even though it sounded crap it pulled better?

and now its fixed it cant escape as easy?

im no mechanic (im sure you can tell) but i cant think of anything else it could be apart from that or wether ive put it on wrong so its not flowing as well

no! you need back pressure in the exhaust for low down response, otherwise the engine is slow at low revs. if the air is escaping to quickly, especially at the front section of the exhaust, it wont be as effective.

the best thing to do is to get the whole thing on there, and then see what you think...

sooo sooo bad! my brother bought a "universal" exhaust for his astra, can't be good for the car to lower the pressure, certainly reduces power.

plus the weld quality looks abysmal.

what are you thinking of fitting it to? I have a nearly new Exhaust for sale winkeye

i had a twin back box with no baffles on the 320, belive me it was the worst mistake i have ever made. she used more juice, the power went down. you have got to look at it like this..... bmw spent millions makeing and designing the exhaust for your motor to make it as suitable for your engine as possible. back pressure is very important.... you will lose allot if you put it on!!!!!!!!!!

backpressure is bad.. but its a bi product of achieving higher gas speeds at lower rpms which is what increases low down torque

sure its not a seat of the pants job.. sounds slower so you think it is.. That blowing would have been costing you power, the closed to the head it is the more effect blowing has
