This may not help, but surely your sat nav can display your speed anyway?

It will display less than the speedo does as the speedo overreads, but it's accurate to within 1km/h I believe?

the sat nav readout will be more accurate than the speedo sensor -there usually bet 5 & 10 mph out

something to do with the sat nav continuing to work when it loses satelite signal, IIRC.
Speed signal is available at the green connector at the back of the speedo.
Late cars with ISO radio connectors already have a connection there for speed sensitive radios. Blue wire, I think.
Also comes out at pin 10 of the white connector and pin 26 of the yellow connector.

which sat nav is it?? if it is pioneer avx-1 is does not really need speed pulse for it to work, it will work off the gyro in the brain box and gps.....

But any way all bms the speed pulse wire is either at the dash radio position or behind the clocks usually black with white stripe, thats is the colour on all the ones i have done!! (e30,e36,e34,e39,e46)

yeh its a pioneer avic -x1 it tells you the direction but on the manual it says if you dnt connect it, it wont be on the correct spot it doesnt really need to tell how far you are going it just makes it accurate so it knows how fast and far you have moved since the last locatiion

i,ve fitted probably 60/70 if these things, 99% of the time i do connect the speed pulse... as i explained the nav will work with out speed pulse and will be just as accurate. the only real reason speed pulse is connected is cos the nav will have three inputs speed, gps and gyro, so if one goes down it still has two as back up e.g. if you were going through a tunnel..... where have you fitted the brain?? make sure it is flat and pointing the way it says on the unit.

did you find the speed pulse wire?? do you know how to check the wire with the nav?? if not i will explain to you :)

the thing with these brains is that you have to lay them flat too!! you got a bit of tolerance but not much. where i put them on e30s is under the passenger seat. take the seat out (4 bolts) lift the carpet, cut the foam for the brain to sit in and secure it in. the leads will be long enough. is the avic new or second hand?? if it is second hand then you have to go into the calibration menu and clear the learning status, cos it will still have memory from the previous car. when you initially put an avic in it has to learn calibrate so it may be a little inacurate to begin with. it will even learn your driving habbits!!!! as in if you take the came route every day it will remember it! clever piece of kit it is.

yeah thats what you need to do...basically its still reading off the old history..... you need to go into the information menu and go to 3d calibration status, and clear the top 3 menus, then the nav will go back to learning status. oh and keep that nav disc in mint condition a new one is 250 quid!!!!! you can go to connection status and see how many sats you are picking up and if everything is connected properly.

Get a dash facia from a left hand drive car so the clock/OBC sits on the right.
There is NO nucleus.
