I have had a problem with my speedo not working for about a month now ...it kinda flickers on and off sometimes but now its showing nothing at all.

I'm not a mechanic so have no idea what to check can anyone help please....
The Rev counter fuel gage temp and MPG work fine but i do have the service light on ..!

Any help would be appreciated

There's a connector block that fits into the diff that gives the reading for the speedo. Jack the car up and replace this. You'll find that this should cure it...

Mine did this. I tried changing the sender on the diff (about Ԛ£12 from the dealer) but it didn't stop the problem.

I ended up taking the instrument cluster out and re-soldering all the joints on the back of it and the little PCB in there and it worked faultlessly after that.

Also worth checking are the connecters in the cluster.

I noticed that mine worked better after heavy braking than after heavy acceleration which suggested something moving back and forth in there.

Good luck!

Far more likely the problem is at the back of the car rather than in the cluster.
Either crud has corroded the plug and socket on the diff, or the wire to the plug has broken internally just back from the plug

Brian... what's your background?

I've noticed you're very informed on E30's...

I'm a sparky with a few E30s, a wife who has a knack of testing things to destruction, and I think I've just about come across and repaired everything that goes wrong on E30s.
