The inside of my filler cap says it takes leaded fuel..... is this true? I wouldn't consider putting leaded in but was just curious as to how it can run on both!

my e-reg and the touring i had can take both, but seeing as u cant buy 4star and LRP is rare now, i use unleaded but the highest octane possible

Total waste of money. it'll run just as well on the lowest octane you can buy in the UK, with no downside what so ever.dobbie82 wrote:my e-reg and the touring i had can take both, but seeing as u cant buy 4star and LRP is rare now, i use unleaded but the highest octane possible

The only reason that some cars can't be run on leaded fuel is because lead will kill a cat. As most E30s don't have cats, they will run happily on either.NH325CAB wrote:The inside of my filler cap says it takes leaded fuel..... is this true? Leaded petrol is virtually unobtainable now in any case, and, AFAIK, the same restrictions don't apply to LRP.

As long as the valve seats haven't been recut, there will have been enough lead hammered into the seats in the car's earlier life to protect them now.318-is wrote:early 325is were designed to run on four star. but should be ok on unleaded now

Think the seats are hard enough to run on unleaded in any case, or at least I hope they are as mine have been re-cut.
Really not worth worrying about either way though: If the seats recede, have harder ones fitted then, not before

I know it's a different engine but years ago I ran a 1983 Capri 2.8i on unleaded for about 20,000 miles and noted no ill effects to compression or performance!

They are certainly harder than the crap Ford use on the Zetec engines.Turbo-Brown wrote:Think the seats are hard enough to run on unleaded in any case,

In that case we really shouldn't have to worry about seat recession
