hi mate! fortunately, iS' dont really have rust problems, especially if they've been looked after. they were all galvanised at birth, so the shells are pretty much rust proof!
typical things to look for are rattly, tappety engine, indiacting that the chain tensioner is worn or even worse the chain itself. iS's do sound slightly tinny and raspy anyway, but look out for noticeable parculiar sounds
iS' came with either 14" or 15" BBS wheels, iS lower lip spoiler, black headlining, sports seats in grey cheque and Mtech 1 s'wheel. also should definately have electric windows and mirrors, but not necessarily electric s'roof.
some of the other iS boys will be along soon to add their 2 pence!
good luck in finding one mate
check out this link. its my iS...

hmmm, not so sure on this. as far as im aware, all the iS's came with BBS alloys.
i work for a BMW dealership, so if you can get me the chassis number, i can put it onto the computer and get a spec list on it! i only need the last 7 digits of the chassis number. as far as im aware, all the iS's chassis numbers started with 'EE' and then had 5 numbers after it

Nope... no good. Can't find one.
But anyway, if it HAS got trims on, make sure they're not the same as regular E30 trims... you know, the one with all the slots round the edge. The iS ones are different.

I have heard of IS's with steel wheels! Haven't come accross one though!
The spec of IS's is debatable, esecailly when it come down to headlining!
Some have black, like sports, but some are white (like one of mine)
If your after a cheap solid IS's then I have one forsale, its high mileage and a bit tatty, but has a solid body and a good engine/drivetrain. Also has black headlinging!
Link is below my sig pic
If your after a minter, you have to look a lot harder....

standard spec for them was
colourcoded bumpers,mirrors. e/windows,mirrors
red, black, white, silver blue colours - metallic were a no cost option, silver and blue ones are very rare
sport seats. s/wheel,gearnob, m-tech suspension and brakes from 325i sport.
Is lip spoiler was optional
those steel 14 inch wheels and hub caps were standard too
fortunatly most came with alloys 15bbs were over a £1000 option! an electric sunroof (700 odd quid too)

These also come with it, but they are only 14's but in excellent condition, as have been removed every winter!!
