Getting there now people :top: :top:

Fuck me tho, spraying in this heat is a bastard, the paint drys before it hits the car if the gun is too far away or not enough thinners are used :wall:

Still tho, not bad for a mornings work, and with only 1 run i'm a bit chuffed for the priming stages :top:

The first show for her will be Ford Fair in August winkeye winkeye winkeye - where she will be on the Fast Ford stand and then on track too

Paul, don't know anything about spraying really, but are you rubbing it down then recoating it, as it will probably only make it easier for the sprayer to get a good top cost finish. I don't know where you lot get some of your inspiration to do crazy things like this, i'm a bored student and i can't even be bothered to wake up in the morning! Bloody brilliant though.

You had better bring it to some e30 meets MR.

BMW show maybe, But i'm a ford man thru and thru

Jon - For prepping, I scotched the existing paint, applied 1 coat of primer to each panel and then gave it a quick rub with 800 grit. tack-ragged it down, and did the same again for each subsiquent coat.

Primer always finishes rough for some reason :( but once flattened off, the topcoat will apply very nicely winkeye

Then after 4 or 5 coats of that, a good machine polish to bring out the shine in the paint winkeye winkeye

No need to laquor as its a solid colour and not a metallic

Sounds like you have it all under control. Lacquer is nasty stuff anyway, very hard to use without getting runs due to the lack of patience on my behalf.

This is going to be a monster

surely you are going use laquer. doesnt matter if its metalic or not, with a good coat of lacquer u will always get a better finish even if it has to be colour sanded after plus un lacquered paint tends to fade... maybe i'm wrong but i think all cars are lacquered now..

you are wrong.

Not all cars are laquored - only metallics.

Toughy - I think its purely due to the heat at the moment, the hadener I am using is medium air drying, should give plenty of time for paint to dry slowly :)

True True Stuart, But i've never experienced it this rough before, mind you, different type of primer this one to what I normally use, might have some reasoning? winkeye
