Is it me or are there a hell of alot of cars being broken now?

i remeber 2 years ago that when an E30 was being broken everyone jumped straight on it as it was a rare thing on here.

People seem to be buying cars to break now rather than fixing. This was not the case a few years ago on here. And alot of cars i've seen have been broken for the hell of it which don't need that much work to keep going etc. I know what peeps will say about it's not worth it bla bla, but we are enthusiasts are we not and we spend money on cars sometimes that we shouldn't from a common sense point of view!

Now there's nearly more cars being broken than parts in the sale section. Half of them are standard turds with no morsels either with all the same problems, broken bits as the cars alot of us are driving in. So whats the point unless u get the turd for £20.

It can't keep going at this rate surely! and no it doesn't seem to have made good/decent cars worth more! sports/318iS/cabs/tourings are selling for less than they did a few years ago. Or have we hit the stage where there aren't really any good ones left? proper good cars i mean.

Just interested in anyone elses thoughts on this. i'm not talking about the people selling but the parts before it starts about egit rip off murchants we get on here now and then

I dunno, I've just bought what seems to be a more or less mint IS although not off this forum. I think the good cars are still out there, it just takes a while to find them.

i would have to agree with you mate

theres a scary no of decent cars getting fragged recently

i suppose the upside is that the few of us that save them will end up with rare cars if the pace dosent slow down soon

its made me even more determined to save my tech 1 winkeye

There are certainly good cars left.

I think it's more a factor both of the model's obviously increasing age (some are beyond saving) and also it's increasing popularity status as quasi classic soon-to-be classic (demand for parts) that more cars are being broken.

With most cars of a similar age the bits are worth more weighed in!

I had to break my touring, I had spent nearly £1000 on it yet it still needed another £500 to get it through an MOT and the car would never sell for more than 800 max, so i cut my losses and am selling various bits, taken £300 so far

Prices are coming down and garage labour prices are stupid, to get the old cars through mot. Parts are cheap.

ditto on the rare models that wanker tandino broke the buchloe built C2 2.7 touring which came very high spec from new and stil had all it's parts

chump trying to make big money off it

it's a difficult topic but one we should talk about.

i love tech 1 sports but they are just so hard to find and a good one well forget it!

the amount of sports broken on here is alarming and thats just the ones i have seen on the forum broken for parts! they didn't make alot to start with. Finding a good tech 2 now is as hard as finding a tech 1 imo!

I've broken prob 5 or so over the last year. No good ones. Its the only way I can afford to go racing, when I need an engine or head or whatever (as I do now after Silverstone) I tend buy a car thats a bit of a shed with a decent engine for a couple of hundred quid, then sell the bits I don't need to get back some of the cost. Usually cheaper overall than buying an engine from a breaker, I also get to test drive it and its fresh out of the car rather than being stacked on a warehouse floor for god knows how long.
For sale - E30 320i racer project - sold.

i agree with you on that one too mate! in all fairness, i've broken 2 cars myself, but neither of them were worth keeping alive! 316i and a 325i SE turd!!

but at the rate we're going, there'll be no E30's left, apart from the ones collecting dust sitting in peoples garages!

i cant believe that fella broke a C2. i just couldnt do it, nor could i do it to an M3 either! i dont care how much it cost me, i'd HAVE to restore it, 'coz you know what?! im an enthusiast....

thats my 2p

fair enough if it realy is bodily past it take everything you can out of it and help another E30 live on!

The other side is eventualy there will be no cars left to break when in the futre, when the E30 is a proper classic, and we might see mint cars off the road for months just because the owner cant go to a scrap yard or ebay to find any bits :?

I dont think there will be alot of money to be made soon by breaking e30's, The more parts available the lower the prices will become.

yawn Sal

turn up to ace then i'll bring demlot to chib ya! he he

but what? that alpina had some rust issues from a leaking battery which could be repaired.

He bought the car for a grand and was trying to sell it whole for £2750 as it was.

Then trying to sell some parts are over the top prices.

It's all about how u go about it, not telling people what u paid for the car etc.

Selling a LHD manifold to us on here, knowing it wouldn't fit

Can you read ?? I said I agree with you.

Just stop the name calling when you full well know you don't have the courage to say it to someone's face. Let's not forget that telephone call where you nearly started crying when I had to call you about some things you were saying. FFS! Some people!

at the end of the day its just a 15-20 year old tin box and were at the stage where the worst have to be broken for parts for the greater good of the rest.if people dont want other people to make money breaking them then put your money where your mouth is and buy them yourself and restore them to there former glory.i dont have a problem with people making money in any way they can if thats what they choose to do.in my opinion its just a box to keep my engine in until i decide to build another project :D

Hi reading through the above i think you should change the name of the site to the E30 Zone [as long as it is not a 4 pot 316i].
Some of us are quite happy trying to keep our 316i on the road and in good order,we cannot all have top of the range E30's.

Hi I am all for people upgrading what they have got but they don't need to slag off every other E30.I hit the breakers at regular intervals hoping to find parts that will keep my 316i running for a lot more years.

By taking offense to anything thats been written you are basically branding your car a shitter. Nowhere in this thread has anyone said all 316's are shit or taken the piss in any way.

The whole point of this thread was that too many decent cars are being needlessly written off and fragged.

If your car is as decent as it looks in the avater pic then surely you agree it should be saved (as you have already said)

I dont understand your problem here?
