It's been a long time since I bought a head unit. Now looking for one.

I want something that looks classy and blends in with the black dash.

Sound quality is the important thing here, eq presets and flashing lights are a waste of time in my opinion. My home stereo which costs in exces of £6k doesnt even have bass/treble controls and sounds amazing as it is.

The only features I need are a good 4V+ pre out and good sub out with the ability to adjust the sub volume (this isnt that imortant as sub volume can be setup from the sub amp.)

Has anyone experience stuff from Becker or Blaupunkt? These look fantastic in my opinion.

The other thing i had in mind was to get a Satnav system installed - any ideas if these are actually any good for sound quality?

Cheers

personally I would suggest something from the alpine range they are of pretty high quality and have a setting which will pick the best settings.

I've had mine nearly 2 years and it's never let me down and still sounds good and blends in well with the dash being as it can have orange backlit buttons

yo alpine back in day as in 2 year ago was the dogs bollox!!! this year they are ok the internals are not as good as they used to be, ive noticed over the years, (ive been in the ice game for 11 years). most of them are not even motirized front panels, and i cant get to grips with the glide touch thing!!!! I think this year Kenwood has the upper hand as in features and quality, Most of there high end units got good pre-outs, aux-in and even USB input for memory stick or i-pod etc... Panasonic is very good this year too... im not anti Alpine cos i got one myself i dont fault it at all its a wicked unit but it is a two year old model, and its only got bass treble controls, (my stuff is running through amps).
I'm not deciding for you dude, just voicing my opinion, dont buy a unit just cos of the name.

nakamichi is what you want!! Ultimate sound quality and fit in well with the bm dash' - option to have the illuminations in orange too!!!

Can't remember the model numbers but i'm having the one that houses a 6 disc changer in a single din h/u space put into my 8 series!!

Do a quick google and i'm sure you'll find 'em. I would, but i gotta dash!!

nakimichi +1!!!

dont go for newer 2005/2006 alpine units,, sound very harsh in the higher range.

becker are also very good!

becker or a nak!

or a 2004 alpine that range was pretty good!

nak cd700 very nice unit, 280ish imported via ebay, plays mp3s, and very good unit.

off the shelf stuff,

becker, and some pioneers are decent...

if your willing to spend big,,, some of the high end pioneers are very good indeed.

The OE stuff in my soarer is made by Nakamichi, for a 15 year old system it sounds damn good

I find the tuners sound gash on recent aplines

Nakamichi are a brilliant brand- I forgot they made head units.

I'll definatately be looking at these.

As for Alpine - never been a fan of these. The sound is always thin in the midrange and seperation is poor.

The Becker's also come with Satnav which is very appealing.

I have the Nakamichi CD400 in my Cab and M3 and it really does suit the car well and the sound is brilliant....I remember seeing the Head unit and it was £500 a bit rich for me at the time but I found 2 in the end at Halfords for £150 each.... Result me thinks...

The Becker range seems to have some excellent features and is extremely simple to use.

Bluetooth ready which connects to your phone to take calls is a very useful one and satnav aswell.

£599 RRP is for the Satnav version with Bluetooth and the sound quality is as good as the rest of the range as the pre/power amp stages are exactly the same.

With a CD changer and upgrading the speakers to a decent make I'm looking at around £1200. Lucky I have a decent 2 channel Amp already.

both Blaupunkt & Becker are nice units. Another to consider - bit more up the price range but a damn classy unit:
