hi

6x9s in an e30 is hard work!!!! :(

all the e30s ive done ive put 16cm 2 ways or 3 ways in. you can get good bass response out of them, if you go for jbl or infinity 16cm speakers the chasis is designed in a way that you can squeeze them into a 13cm hole with minor cuttin of the top fibre board, when i did my 87 e30 they slotted straight in.

but if you still want to go down the 6x9 route, there is a lot of cutting on the top board, dependin on the size of the magnet you may have to cut the metal underneath!! which i try to avoid.

I cut the shelf (not the metal) and then used some plywood to make a shelf that stretches all the way across the back shelf to raise the 6x9s up enough to fit.

pictures are on my work pc but I'll post soon.
E46 M3 CSL but dreaming of another E30.

Jon, go to Gk's on north station rd and we sell maystar mdf rings to space 6x9's, either that or cut your own which would be cheaper.

I suppose I kind of bodged my install but I thought they looked good. I put 6X9's in my 316. I got some MDF rectangles cut out the holes using a jigsaw and spayed them mat black and mounted the speakers on them bolted (long bolts) to the metal shelf.

Was very secure 8O
