Hi Ed!

I'm planning the 312mm front brakes on my 335i too using Audi TT discs.
Just wondering where you got your caliper mounting brackets and, apart from drilling for four stud fitting, did the discs need any other machining / modifications?

Many thanks!

cor, i've been away for ages and everyone is still ranting!!!!

time to correct a few points:
1) i do not have a bia shift to the rear! i never said this!

2) i do have a bias shift to the front but this is not a large one.

3) the rear brakes do overheat before the fronts but this is due to the increased fade resistance at the front. with the standard setup i only ever managed to cook the rears AFTER the fronts had already gone. the fronts would cook up after 5 mins of hard driving, not exactly what i'd recommend. as i've said before, my car is VERY hard on it's brakes.

4) some more elementary maths to digest: the pressure ANYWHERE in a hydraulic circuit es equal. the pressure exerted on the fluid = the force divided by the area of the M/C. the clamping force from the caliper = pressure x total piston area.

this means if you increase the bore of the M/C you will reduce pedal travel as the displacement of the piston on the m/c will push more fluid. the pressure in the fluid (for an equal 'leg' force!!) will reduce. if you ignore losses and concetrate on the principle, it's all basically like levers, just hydraulic ones.

oh, Dimlotcrew, for your information, i'm not buying "off the shelf brake kits" as the kit was developed on my car! if you're implying that i would be using F1 brakes then that just shows your limited level of understanding! :D seriously though, once my car is back on the road, i'd happily take you out in it to show you how it performs.

in essence the kit shifts the bias to the front a bit (not a lot but just right for fast road use, this IS desireable with any real performance levels), negates the need to change the M/C (by correct system design!) and most importantly increases the fade resistance of the system.

has anyone on here bought one yet? (though the 'zone shop or ebay) or am i still the only 'zone member with one?

Ed did you get the discs drilled for you, if so, where and how much. I need to know a rough idea of costs as at some point I need to redrill some 5 stud 280 x 30 mm thick discs to 4 stud pattern. So its only the 3 holes that need drillling. I don't fancy my chances with a black and decker :o

The centre hole needs opening up a bit in the tt disc. I got the mounting brackets from Tino on www.300mm.de this was the most expensive part of the set up. I got the discs form euro car parts and then I got them modded free and the cailpers where given to me by a fellow zoner.

i can't find any unsernames in the search with TINO in...

shame really. his english seems to be very good (like every german i've ever met actually!) and i feel he would be a welcome addition to the 'zone. i bet he's got a lot on his plate with the e30.de forum though.
