The E30 heater matrix.

Can anyone tell me if it allows coolant to flow thru it continually, regardless of what position the heater dial is in on the dashboard.

Or is it the type that has a valve to stop the flow of coolant when the dial is turned to cold.

Its very important I know this, or I could overheat and damage the YB engine due to the way the coolant system works on a YB winkeye

There's a solenoid valve on the side of the heater unit that shut's off the water flow when the temp dial is turned to cold. Infact, the valve is closed for the first 20 degrees of dial movement.

Easily dealt with, though, if you need a constant flow.

Hi Brian, Cheers for the reply winkeye

How do I deal with the solenoid valve to give it a nice constant flow please?

obviously I have to give the solenoid a constant supply to keep the valve open, but where abouts is the solenoid?

Cheers winkeye winkeye winkeye

Easier than that! The valve is powered shut.
Part of the valve is actually the black stub pipe that goes through into the engine bay. Body of the valve is behind the panel to the right of the glovebox, and has a little in line fuse close to it.
Pull the fuse and the job's done.
