Bump this one - I just removed my cambelt and noticed I have no spring either.
Can I push it tight and lock it off? If so, how tight?

I'd get a new tensioner mate to be on the safe side

Engine is an M20.
I already have a new tensioner pulley - I didn't expect the spring to be missing!

It's not the end of the world, if you can twist the belt 90deg then its okay, any more or less and its wrong, too tight and it will whine, too loose and it could jump a tooth. HTH

It's whining, it must be too tight :(
That's twist the belt 90deg between thumb and finger on the long run between cam and intermediate pulleys?
Oh well, looks like I'm spending tomorrow up to my elbows in it, too.

Think of the belt as horizontal, 90deg makes it vertical, could be your tensioner whining too. HTH

It didn't whine this morning, maybe it's sorted itself :?
The tensioner, water pump, alternator and power steering belts were all changed yesterday, too - could have been one of them.
I'll have to see how it goes....is it likely to pop if it's too tight? If so, how soon?
