Used a large shoe horn to extract the wife so I could drive my car this morning.Noticed that the OBC was not displaying.Further checking revealed that the display worked but is very faint. It is the same with the lights on and dimmer turned up full. When the sun shone on the display it showed up a little better any bright sparky with a solution, please?

Sounds like your bulb in the obc has gone buddy.
I just retro fitted the obc to my car and had the same problem, once it had been fitted. Very dim, just about see the display if the sun was shining enough!
The bulb comes in an enclosed thingy (sorry for the explanation) that goes into the back of the obc, slides in and out
They cost about £20 from the dealers, which is kinda steep, I didn't know they would be that much myself, quite shocking really. I got lucky and got mine for free as my mate at the dealers had a old obc unit sitting there so I got that one.

Thanks smithy,I have carefully studied both links.Collected a selection of screwdrivers from the garage and waded in.Pulled the radio and the haz.switch out and had to move the car,the b***** light came back on!!Must have been a poor conection on the slider thingy.....when it does give up I will try the LED conversion, thanks again for your help and the info.

Well, the light finaly gave up last week,I waited a while to see if doing nothing would work.It dident.I bought two LEDs and a resistor from my local radio spares shop(Birketts,Upper High Street,Lincoln)for all of 35p.Fitted as per instructions and it worked!!The soldering bit is fiddley, but if you can get to the lower L/H OBC fixing screw the soldering is easy by comparision.
