Hi.
Fitted new downpipes at the weekend but had to wait for a new gearbox bracket to arrive before I could continue.
Fitted .... lovely.

Now trying to join the mid section and the pipes one side aren't long enough. It's all original BMW (Eberspacher) parts.

Any ideas as I'm stuck and want to get the new Supersprint fitted.

Just my guess, but it looks like the two pipe-ends coming out of the centre box have been altered - the welds look more recent, and obviously they're different lengths.

You may need to weld a new piece in place, or get a new centre box?

Again, just guessing...

You need to undo the clamp that you have tightened up and slide the centre silencer further onto the downpipes. The joint nearest the camera is a slip joint, the tube from the silencer fits over the downpipe

True, but it'll only go in so far, and that looks a BIG gap.

The flange attached to the downpipe side should be almost at the bend when it's in the correct position, you can see that the 2 tubes aren't in alignment so they can't be fully home yet.

Thanks for the help. Will try again tonight.
So the downpipe nearest will slide in further .... I guess with closer inspection you can see the tube from the box is slightly wider at the opening than where it is welded to the box.
So should the "asbestos free ring" slide in easier with a good coating of copper ease ... or will that get bunged up in the rear box.

And thanks again ....

Hi ... After I tracked down what appears to be the last Supersprint (2x90mm) box in Europe (that one is out of production and unavailable in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Denmark and now Sweden - still a few in the USA) I wanted a Stainless mid box too.
I talked to the guy I buy my parts from and he said the only thing he could think of was the Scorpion. He said people sent them back because they were difficult to fit. He didn't recommend I try.
So I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Just what I heard ... have no experience of Scorpion.

took my scorpion centre off the other day and had no problem at all

also previously had fitted my 6branch to it also no probs then

have now left the scorp backbox and put a standard middle box and manifold back on

all went on easy enough without a hitch

hope that helps mate

These back boxes are really good, it's unfortunate that they are no longer available - leaves us with very little choice on the E30 now.

Iain T .... you are to be awarded a gold Blue Peter badge.
The fibre ring just needed coaxing down the downpipe and then it fitted perfectly.
If you come to Copenhagen I will gladly buy you a pint or two.

Got it all fitted but seeing as you are so good with exhausts ....
The joins between the back and front boxes were dripping water. It doesnt sound like it's blowing but if water can get out then I presume air can. so do the clamps need tightening a bit more (even though they are very tight) ??????

And what a noise !!!!
It's going to take months to wipe the smile off my face.

Thanks so much for your help.

No worries buddy, glad you got it sorted.

I'd be tempted to remove the back box and use some exhaust sealing paste then refit it, should cure the leaks.

Cheers,
