So 4 doors have independant cut offs for the rear, where as 2 doors have the larger (shown on the right hand side) one that does all four windows?

It's a US spec car - maybe they had a button to operate the door locks, like many other US cars. My Jaguar used to lock the doors when you started the car, and there was a button like that to unlock it.

Also, it may be just the picture, but the button looks newer than the others, with no symbol on it - maybe it was a non-standard addon?

As far as i know this button is standard on any 4 door/touring with electric rears. It is the cut off switch.

I think 99% of all E30's I have ever seen have the symbol rubbed off of almost all the switches inside.......lol

That seems about right. Most 4dr cars (of any make) with leccy windows will have a cut off for the rear windows to stop little kids jumping out.

Probably a good thing when the E30 gets sideways :drive:

All four windows work through the front right "switch" which is a resettable "fuse". The square front left switch (which doesn't have markings on it), disables the window switches on the rear doorcards, leaving the rearmost switches on the console still operative.

I asked the same question some time ago and it is indeed the isolator for the back windows on 4 doors.

yes, loose your mate.....lol

if you notice, the gear selector has four selections for drive. 1-2-3-D

With drive being overdrive........unless there was an E30 with a 5 speed auto box.....lol
