Hi all, not sure if this is the right forum for this, if not Sorry!
My girlfriend and I are off round France and Spain for 3 and half weeks in my (hopefully!) trusty 1988 318i. We want to get breakdown cover for Europe just in case of the worst. I'm having a few issues trying to find any company who'll cover me as my car is apparantly too old! :-x The few quotes I've got from the likes of the RAC are around the £150 which seem a bit steep for a months cover! :x
If anyone knows of any companies that might give me a cheaper deal I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance! :)

Had a similar problem, RAC wanted £75 for a weeks cover, everywhere else said too old. I risked it in the end, deciding that if anything serious went wrong, it would visit the scrapyard. I survived, just make sure you take some tools, water and oil.

Only cost me about a extra £12 with the rac but the car i took to germany was only 4 years old , Still worth spending the money whatever it costs as its peace of mind if anything does happen :D

go to www.moneysupermarket.com they do european breakdown cover from 1st choice, bought £75 for the year. includes home start rescue etc etc.

DON'T rely on scrap yards / hope that it wont break down. What happens if you get crash'd into? breakdown will get the car+ all your gear + you home. if you don't have it you will have a hudge bill!

I have had first choice for nearly a year, its been fine...but i haven't used it so wouldn't know!

Thanks for the advice lads, spot on! Much cheaper than RAC. Can't believe it costs so much to upgrade my RAC policy :-x
Just go to sort out putting the girlfriend on the insurance which isn't cheap either as she's had a few accidents in the last few years. Hmm what am thinking letting her drive my 318 in the 1st place?!!!

Do you live together? put her down as co-habiting, mine mad my insurance cheaper! (but then she hasn't had any crashs'..)

Be aware cheaper breakdown like first quote covers the car not the driver. i.e RAC cover the person, so if you breakdown in someone elses car, then you can use your cover. First quote just covers the car, but who ever drives it.

Yeah we live together, I got quoted £220 to have her permanently added to my policy, I find out tomorrow how much just for a month! ouch!!! :x
Might well end up in going in her fiesta if it doesn't end up much cheaper as our budget is pretty tight! :(

try different insurance companies, always call around or check at www.confused.com www.moneysupermarket.com when you make any big changes.

Just remember that insurance companies will usualy try and screw you when you need them, so don't give them extra money.
