Hi guys,

I've been trying to get some new bearing shells for my crank (M20, 325i). GSF have told me that they don't stock them anymore, and EuroCarParts are out of stock. BMW want in excess of £110 for a set.

Any ideas where I can get some for a reasonable amount of money? I've got a query in with Motormec, but some other leads would be good.

Cheers,

Jason (GOO)

Motormec have gotten back to me with some decent prices.

My next question is can 'late' ('86>) M20 bearing shells be used in an 'early' (<'86) M20 block? My block has '85 cast into it, BTW.

They have the late ones in stock and are willing to do a deal, but can get early ones in and still be cheaper than BMW direct.

Federal Mogul still make them and they're available everywhere!

Think mine were about £45 for the mains and around about that again for the big end bearings so for a full set £100 is about right :)

rosscoe: Motormec don't seem to know. They said I'd have to find out myself.

Turbo: Motormec can do the orig. equipment (KolbenSchmidt) late bearings for £39, and the early ones for £62. These prices (and BMW's) are just for the crank bearings - not for crank plus big-end.

Where did you get yor Federal ones from?

Got mine from the local machine shop.

If you've not got one of them, drop QEP http://www.q-e-p.co.uk/ a line as they can get pretty much anything!

early ones only have one locating latch (dont no the proper name for it, later ones have two, so in a word no they are not interchangable

i bought bearings from GSF for my early 325i, both big and main end ones, in november without hastle so i think they are telling porkies unless they have stopped doing them since!
