Hi all,

Just Gliptoned my black leather seats and have managed to get most of the overall consistency back to the colour, thank god (a problem discussed in one of my previous threads).

However, the driver's seat right bolster has been subjected to some wear over the years by the looks of it. I made an enquiry and it'll cost me £100 to retrim just this bolster part.

I'm thinking about doing the retrim, but am concerned about (a) the cost, since I'm almost broke having bought the car recently, and (b) the colour match with the rest of the seat (the seat is in good nick otherwise and has matured nicely.)

What would people recommend here - is this bolster recoverable without having to retrim? Can I protect the scuffed parts effectively with liquid products? I heard that Gliptone have some Scuffmaster stuff to repaint the scuffs, but will this give adequate protection for an area that is going to keep getting abrasion in getting in and out of the car?

Here's a photo of the problem in question. Thoughts?

Cheers

Ben

I agree...scuffmaster will cover it, but you will have to keep re-applying it as it tends to wear off....it always looks a little ...used ,,,if you know what i mean

but it does the job

forgot...you will have to send them a sample to match the colours...( behind the back seat is the place to get it from)

how is your hood doing by the way

Thanks chaps. I'll check out the scuffmaster stuff then.

I was actually thinking about whether I should just swap the driver and passenger seats around. I believe this should be fairly easy, just remove the 4 bolts holding each seat down? I have heated seats though, so I think I'll have to disconnect some wires (don't know where they are located though, will have to look for them).

I'll scuffmaster the problem bolster anyway, regardless.

Cheers

Ben

PS. Dave, as for the hood I haven't had much time this weekend to attend to it. Meant to come to Aces on Saturday to say hello but was so busy I had to give it a miss. But thanks for asking... I will post up my progress later...

Not sure but if you swap the seats round make sure the plug (electrics) is going to reach

plugs for the heated seats are right under the seats, loosen all 4 bolts and then rock the seat backwards so that you can see underneath the front, you shoudl eb able to see the wores, the pulgs should be the same side for side

the only problem that you would have is that the adjustment handles would be next to the centre console rather than by the door making it difficult to adjust the seat

Good point, forgot about those pesky adjusters. Damn.

Looks like i'll have to give the scuffmaster a chance, then retrim when that gives up the ghost. Balls.

what you will be doing is re-dyeing the leather and you have to build up a finish with regular frequent applications to build up some depth ...your seats look in reasonable nick so keep at it and they will look good
