I'm extending the wiring loom on my M30 conversion for a factory (ish) finish. My question is in the loom there are thick grey cables with two smaller wires inside surrounded by exposed wire ( a bit like a shielded cable) going to the engine sensors, can I use 3 suitable cables instead or has it been done like this to act as a sheild?

Any help much appreciated :thumb:

It's been done like that to act as a shield me thinks.

You can get shielded wire from Maplin and the likes though so it shouldn't be a problem to replace the original, did mine in blue!

I like blue :)

The sheilding strands are just earthed to remove any static, when I extended mine I made the cut after where the earthing starts if that makes sense :)

What??

Are you saying you only extended the two inner wires?

Can't find any suitable cable in Maplin either

Yup 8)

Only one join though, I cut an ECU plug with about 300-400mm of wire from a breaker

Yeah, Maplin's online thing is gay and doesn't show their whole stock!

You can either go into a store and ask for the stuff, or do what I lazily did and buy an XLR microphone lead which is two core+shielded and perfect for CPS applications :)

EDIT> Sorry, at a mate's house logged in as him but didn't realise :) Cheers! Alex.

I did wonder about some of the audio cables..
Problem now solved as stupidly I forgot about my spare E38 M30 engine, I couldn't use the ECU plug from it but it did have enough of the exact cable to do the job :D

Pity it's now bloody raining :cursin:

Cheers chaps :thumb:
