Just taken the ECU out of my Tec 1 and was wondering if it has been chipped or not, anyone any idea?

Stock as a rock mate and a 24 pin ECU too.

there are 4 holes in the PCB t convert to the later 28 pin Eprom required.

If youy can solder, there as lot to be had from chipping the higher compression Engine in the Tech 1

hey

I've been diging around about BBTB and zone chips for mmy 86 325 tech1 sport, I'm assumming it'll have the same 24 pin layout above, now I'm well confused on how to get a 24 pin board to accept a 28 pin chip, I'me not a soldering/electronics expert at all.

any guide/info gratefully received

whats worse I'm in Ireland so no "nipping" down to Ant, who to me lloks like God right now!!

There's no guarantee it'll be a 24-pin board in your ECU - they way I understand it, most of them were replaced so you'll have no problems. Mine was 24-pin though, but it really is easy to fit the new ones... Ant (legend that he is) sent me them, & the holes are there in the board, ready for em to drop right in...

If you've never soldered anything, I'm sure you must know someone who has? :thumb:

anyone know? I've done a 'search' already

oh and don't say 'if your car is a facelift it'll have the lower compression engine', cos I have a cab and BMW didn't change the body/panels/bumpers on those for a few years AFTER the 'facelift' engines came out....

Ant,
Yep it's JonB ... he should have got the cheque Saturday or yesterday latest.
He has your address and was supposed to sending it.
He hasn't replied to mypm's since friday.

G

And following up with orange here , I presume my engine is the older higher comp. Sep 86 should be I think.
Did have a new head last year ... I presume that won't make a difference. (the head I bought was brand new and the only one in the catalogue was for a "cat equipped" car.)

the late/early engines change over with the swop to plastic bumpers, so pretty much september 87 onwards should be an 8.8:1 bottom end, heads are all the same on the 325, all 885 castings, no change in valves although the early cam certainly has altered spec if you put one against the cat ready unit.

The above info only applies if your car is still wearing its original bottom end, there have been a lot swopped about over the years, so there are a few "hybrids" out there

Andyboy may have info relating to an engine code change ??

What about metal bumpered later cabs, are these early or later compression?

Ant,
The bottom end is certainly original ... now you mention it I think it was the cam that was for a "cat" engine. Suppose that will slow things down a bit !!
Can your wonder chip get around having a "cat prepared cam" ??
