Some kind person has had ago at opening my passenger side door lock, with out the key. I have just been to the dealer and the new lock will be Ԛ£23 or Ԛ£47, the latter being key coded. the chap said that it was possible to swap the internals over. I would like the same key to open all doors. Is quite a quick job or should i just pay up the extra Ԛ£24?

Once again i find myself having to think, well at least they did not stab all 4 tyres or smash the glass.

cheers

i got a price for a door barrel the other week, think it was about Ԛ£25 but it was a blank one with all the bits to make it fit my key. it was an hours labour cost for bm to do it but he said it was pretty straight forward to do myself, just time consuming

The lock repair kit from the dealer (cheaper option) contains a new barrel assembly and a set of lock pins, you just assemble the pins into the barrel in the correct order for your existing keys.

Took me about an hour, much better than having to carry 2 keys around with you.

Cheers,

Cheers chaps, i' saw the repair kit on my etk, so i'll give bm a call and see if they can get one in for me.

I used to live in Moss Side for 2 years and no break ins occurred. so to suffer 2 attacks in the last 8 months is quite annoying.

cheers

take your lock apart and carefully remove the pins to find the code.
once you have that, then just get a few locks from breakers and take some apart for the pins then put the pins into a lock in the correct order.

The repair kit was about Ԛ£16 new from dealer. The new pins refused to work so i put the old ones in and then it turned ok. old key = old pins. something that caught me out for a while was that if the lock barrel slots in 180 degrees from the correct way then the barrel is stuck and can not turn. all in it took 2 hrs about 1 1/4 that was faffing with the lock and barrel.
Long nose pilars are needed to pull the lock clip off. basically a simple job but a bit of a faff...but much less faff that having 2 different keys.

First use of benley manual, i reckon a garage would take at less an hour so the book has paid for itself.

Lets hope nobody has to do this too often.
