Cheers,

cool! i was thinking about doint this on a E34 as having pulled a E32 735i apart and owning a E34 525i i can see the similarities in the general layout and thought a E34 550i sport would be an easy(ish) swap...

is your mate doing any articles or on any forums for me too peek at? :D

Progress has deffo been on the slow side as I got married in July, (plead temporary insanity   )

Anyways, have managed to get in a bit of work on the project. Glenn warned me to change both the sump gaskets (thanks mate) the upper sump gasket was disintegrating and falling into the lower sump. (Apologies for the poor picture)
Image

Thankfully there was no metal or other nasty surprises lying in the sump.

Here is a picture which shows why the bottom end is so strong with the 4 bolt main bearing caps.
Image
Next job on the engine is to get the inlet manifolds off and get the rocker covers repainted and renew the gaskets.

The gearbox has been cleaned up and will be getting a new filter and front and rear seals.

Cheers,

Rich.

Cool never seen that on a car. The truck engines I work on have 4, 2 underneath and 2 on the side. Are there enough sump bolts there???? How does the sump work ie upper and lower?
