Not for a 318i guessing by your name. I believe their 4.10 standard. and a 3.64 diff will make accelarating really slow

The early 318i had either a 3.64 or 3.91 diff and the facelifts had 4.10s.
If yours is a facelift 318i ('87 onwards) fitting a 3.64 diff will make it slow. Low revs when cruising though.
Top end would be higher, but in a 318i it would take an age to get there, if at all.
I wouldnt go lower than 3.91 on a facelift 318i. I did fit my 3.91LSD to my 318i touring (4.27 diff as standard), but the engine gave up so I didnt get chance to drive it
If yours is an early 318i then fitting the 3.64LSD will be fine.

So yours will have the 4.10 diff. In that case Id say a 3.91 would be the best bet.
You could always try the 3.64 and see how you get on.
