Have been told by my mechanic that the gearbox output shaft (if thats the right description) needs replacing and as this is leaking it has made the gear shift bushes go soft, which gives me loads of play in the gearshifter.
whats sort of money should i expect to pay to have these bits done? And is there any other things you would reccomend to get done at the same time?
Cheers, Dave

Gear shift bushes aren't rubber and aren't affected by oil, but they're quite capable of wearing in their own.
Output shaft seal can leak, and so can the selector shaft seal. It's very difficult to tell which is actually leaking.
The gear linkage is replaced by a modified version, so you will need the bit that actually goes on the selector shaft and the link to the gear lever.
The shaft seal should be replaced at the same time.

The oil leak hasn't and won't rot the gearshift bushes.d6dph wrote:So its selector shaft seal & output shaft seal that need doing? What sort of money would you say this will cost?
It may rot the gearbox mounting rubbers if the oil's getting on them. It's two new gearshift parts you need , plus the selector shaft seal.
As for the oil leak - I don't know from here how bad it is, or which seal is leaking. You have the choice of living with it or fixing it.
The parts for the gearshift are around £40, IIRC, and an hour or so of rather fiddly work, trying to work past the propshaft.
The gearbox output shaft seal is, I suppose, a couple of quid, but fitting it involves removing the propshaft. Not so easy.
