I am fitting a alpine 1003 flip screen unit and it has a lead that goes to the power supply of the handbrake to stop you using it when the car is moving, can i bypass this if i connect it to 12volts.
worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it never really gets you anywhere

on mine its connected to the earth!!! so i directly connected to the black wire on the headunit....

Some units connect to earth, I have an Ai-Net interrupt box that is switched over by an earth connection, but the CVA-1003 seems to need the 12v signal by the looks of it. I wasn't sure so I checked the 1003 wiring diagram on the Alpine website.

Not sure about the Alpine, but sony one's use earth.
I'm gonna put it on a switch so it can only operate with the handbrake on (as the law requires) when people are looking, but at a press of a button it'll work all the time!!
