This came up in the forced induction section too but i know some of you tech heads dont always visit there..
The switch itself is no more and has been replaced with a guage inside the car..in its place is the feed for the turbo
How do i stop the oil check light from illuminating now...How do/can i short the switch so it thinks its still connected and everything is ticky-ta-boo?
thks

Yep, that's all the switch does.
Or you could just take the bulb out

So there's no way of tricking the connector that plugs into the switch?...theres gota be a way of keeping that light off while keeping everything intact?

Oil pressure switch is nothing to do with the oil check light for a start.
Earthing the pressure switch wire will make the oil pressure light come on. Leave it disconnected and the light will stay off.

This is what I thought on the day. The check light is just for oil level I thought. And the oil pressure switch is on the main instrument panel.Brianmoooore wrote:Oil pressure switch is nothing to do with the oil check light for a start.

Carl perhaps you knocked the sensor when we moved it out of the sump or an earth isn't strapped down properly as there is enough oil in there.
We'll have a butchers friday.

The check light has come on, which i think indicates low oil level and thats it iirc. Is that right brian?

Yes. Oil LEVEL is on the check control. This is the one you need to switch off by earthing the wire.Jon_Bmw wrote:The check light has come on, which i think indicates low oil level and thats it iirc. Is that right brian?
or you could unsolder the LED from the panel.

Or you could repair it properly!smithy318i wrote:[

There is a potential problem with the earth wire from the oil level sensor.
If your main earth strap from the engine to the car body becomes defective, the next time you try to start the car all the starter motor current will flow through the level sensor earth wire (other end is one of the smaller wires that bolts to the main earth terminal on the turret), and the wire will promptly vapourise, damaging the rest of the engine loom in the process.
I have an E30 here that did just this, and it was a Cat. C write off as a result!

Oil level sensor is enclosed in a metal can with a very small hole at the top and an equally small one at the bottom. It gets full of sludge and the net result is it responds very slowly to changes in oil level.JAMZ wrote:Lights off now...
